John's Scan

Hi everyone,
We went to the doc on Friday. John had his CT and blood work on Tuesday. The scan showed that the lung mets were stable, the liver mets had shrunk some but there was a little growth in the tumor on his right adrenal glad.

His Onc seemed pleased. I wanted more! He has had only one cycle of Xeloda plus avastin since his month break. So there was some growth. I hope the next scan will show more shinkage everywhere. His CEA was at 11.3 up from 9.5.

She gave him ritalin for energy. Has anyone had this for energy? She said he could just use it as needed. He has been so wiped out some days. Paula

    It's good to hear that the lung mets were stable and the liver met had shrunk. It sounds like the tumor in the adrenal gland is a bit more stubborn. I hope and pray with you that the next scan shows shrinkage in all areas.
    **** also had a scan this week and we got results. I know what a toll this takes on both of you. We found that it took us both a few days to find our footing again and try to go out and do something fun and joyful. I hope the two of you can enjoy something special this week.

    Ritalin????
    For energy??? I thought it would have the opposite effect?? I had babysat some years back, a child who had ADD, and they had him on Ritalin, which I hated, because kids to me should be hyper and energetic, and wanting to play, but that drug, whenever he took it, made him into a zombie! all he would do is sit on the couch, and watch TV, he had wanted to do nothing, so I've never heard of this wanting to give a person energy, it seemed like, it zapped the life out of the child.

    But glad to hear the scans came out good, as long as it stays stable, I'd be happy!

    Like Donna says, I always thought was for ADD and served to calm /slow kids down, Maybe it has opposite effect on adults?.Lack of energy, as you know, is consequence of our treatment.Never thought to ask for something for myself to counter it as I felt maybe body needed to rest to deal with poisionous chemo...Steve..

    Hi,
    Ritalin has the opposite effect on people who do not have ADD. Caffeine also has the opposite effect. If caffeine is given to someone with ADD, it calms them down and can help them focus.

    Yes
    It is for ADD and it does work the opposit for people who don't have ADD. I will update everyone on how it does for him.

    Ritalin also might cause......
    depression , anger, crying spells, anger, a need to rebel, did I say anger....be careful, it will give energy but sometimes the wrong type....You know him well so if you see him acting in a way that is not pleasing to you and unbecoming of him then its probably the ritalin...........
