I've thought about this a lot since Marie posted it initially.
When Marie initially posted this, I really gave it a lot of thought. I was 56 when my UPSC cancer was diagnosed. I never used any kind of lubricant for sex, pre-cancer. I guess I just thought I was lucky and sensual (i.e. horney, I guess. HA!) I didn't know that wasn't normal or unusual for a post-menopausal woman.

Thinking back, I do remember that I never had any kind of discharge on my underpants or anything, but that I could swipe around in there with my finger during my bath and usually swab out some sort of slippery liquid (sorry for the graphic info, but for full disclosure, I don't know how to avoid this.) I did this nightly as a part of my bath and hygiene, so I was definitely aware of it. I thought it was just a part of post-menopause, now that I no longer had my monthy menstruation to 'clean me out' and 're-balance' me. (I've always been a big believer in the positive function of menstruation in correcting any little 'balance' problems in the vagina.)

If this is an early indicator for UPSC, then PLEASE, if you have anything to add to this thread, forget about modesty (and privacy) and let's see what we may be able to collectively offer cancer researchers and women everywhere!!

I think this is a good discussion and good to collect this data.

But I didn't have this to my recollection. they found mine Stage 3a UPSC) when I got uncontrolled pain - no other symptoms - probably a cyst broke, so I was told.

Moisture
I never felt moisture. I had chemo induced menopause at age 49 and got USPC at age 57. I think we need more tests for uterine cancer that could be done along wiht pap smear.

Why don't they make a vaginal ultrasound routine starting at a certain age or if you have family history just like they make a mammogram routine? That would help both uterine and ovarian...

I would believe ultrasound routine is a good way to prevent cancer cuz pap smear doesn't show symptoms of cancer in the uterus. I found out when I had symptoms when I had two weeks of menstruating. (Webmd.com) says if your are menstruating more than 9 days then check with the doctor. I read in Webmd.com that after menopause we will have some kind of skin dryness. I'm having some kind of moisture like jock rash right after I had antibiotics. I thought that was normal especially when you are finish with antibiotics. I'm using antifungual powder to keep it dry. The doctor can prescribe for you. Reddie

Hi Linda & ladies..

My mom Judy also did have moisture and leakage for a year or 2 before the bleeding/spotting started. What bothers me now is that back when she had the moisture she would tell me about it and I honestly thought nothing of it. I just thought that happend to women as they got older.. and to be even more honest I had no idea that uterine cancer existed.. i knew ovarian popped up sometimes but I never heard of anyone getting uterine.

Her doctor did tell us that moisture or leakage definitely isn't normal and should have been checked.. But we didn't know.. so here we are.

We all have those things that bother us because "what if I would have.....or I should have...". We can't change any of that now. Conserve all that good energy to love and enjoy and advocate for your mom now.

ultrasound
An ultrasound tech told me that they do transvag us in Europe along with pap smears. I do not know for sure but if endometrial ca is 2nd cancer in women why do the not screen like mammograms so we could be more aware??

I had an abd ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound and a CT scan and they found an area "consistent with a fibroid). No evidence of cancer was mentioned.....When I finally had some pink discharge 4 months later I was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer that had eroded through the uterus! ?????

My gyn/oncologist told me that he felt I had had cancer for at least 2 years as advanaced as it was!!!!

Not sure what tests I could have had done differently that would have detected it? Or did the radiologists misread my tests????

Don't have good answers...just frustated and some anger so try not to dwell on that!

Wow, I am amazed that there was no endometrial thickening that showed up and lulled you into thinking just fibroids. Even a cat scan ---YIKES. My mom's internist said that he sees more and more women that have not had hysterectomies that have endometrial cancer in their 60's and 70's. My mom was one of the few ladies of all her friends that DID not have a Hysterectomy which would have been prevention. She had no symptoms and it was found with kidney stone on an a cat scan. She did have fibroids. Well, I guess that better late than never and you had treatment and look fabulous.

Ultrasound screening
I had tranvaginal ultrasound for screening and all they found was fibroids and my left ovary wasn't functioning correctly. I went to see GYN doctor and she decided to have biopsy on me that's when I find out that I had endo cancer. I was 42 at that time when I had first time ultrasound screening. I wish I had early screening but I accept and move on. I'm thankful that I'm alive and NED. Reddie
