My husband and I just moved to Houston far away from our family in Arizona to have his transplant. And now just days before his transplant, he has relapsed. His blasts went back up to 50% and now is in excruciating pain. Now we have to do another round of chemo to see if it will even get him into remission again.

I know you many of you have dealt with this pain but how can a caregiver/wife help? If feel so helpless when he is in tears and the pain meds aren't taking the pain away.

My heart is breaking. What do I do?

I know exactly how you feel.
I know exactly how you feel. My husband is in remission from AML. He had a bone marrow tranplant 3 months ago. For the past year and a half I have watched him go thru and still go thru alot of pain.
I think all you can do is just be there. Hold his hand, hug him, comfort him. Keep a positive attitude. I know the helpless feeling you are having.
Like your husband mine relapsed too. He relapsed 6 months after his first remission in his spinal fluid. He went thru radiation to his head and spine and achieved a second remission with no sign in his marrow. Anything is possible and there is a potential cure for him. Keep your head up. If you need to talk feel free to email me. corswenson@yahoo.com

I know how painful it is..
Hi, It's my 1st day on this site. I remember the pain...it's horrible. I agree with the last person. You just have to stay positive and let him know you are there. My husband felt the same, he never told me, but I know he must've felt helpless. Be strong. I hope he gets better soon.

    Support for CLL patients
I can only tell you to try and be strong for your husband, times like this tend to strenghten religious beliefs.
I myself was diag. in August 2009 with CLL, have yet to begin chemo, I'm wait and see trtmt plan, but with my biopsy surgery, left me with nerve damage to the right side of my face, ear, neck, and right shoulder. My joint pain is what puts me at a pain level of 10, which tends to bring tears, because i feel so helpless, since my pain meds aren't helping like with your husband's pain. I know when I cry, it really scares my Aust. Shepard, she is my strength right now, she can make me laugh at times, but when things are bad, I see the fear in her eyes.
One thought would be First Connection, I spoke with my first CLL patient today, he's like the poster patient for CLL, he was diag back in the early 90's, and still yet to be put on chemo.
Also, support groups for family members and caretakers. God Bless.
