Biotene and Baking soda & water has worked for meCat64 said:Tracy
Biotene is also another good one. Your Oncologist can also prescribe Magic Mouthwash. I just use Baking Soda toothpaste, however it didn't stop the sores from appearing on the outside corners of my mouth.

Good luck ...

Started using it right after my First Chemo. Bottle says #1 recommended mouthwash for DRY MOUTH Care. States "Only Biotene contains four BIO-Active ENZYMES to boost and restore the defense system found in your saliva. Together they help provide harmful bacterial protection, naturally." I am a lable reader and I liked what it says.

OK Thanks!
Thanks everyone so much...My dentist recommended Diotene (or at least that is what I THOUGHT she said,
but I guess it is Biotene..since 2 of you have said that now...
I think I will get that cuz it is easier than mixing the baking soda solution.,..haha..right now I am into EASY solutions....0 -
I too will be on Taxotere and CytoxanMyTurnNow said:I never had any mouth sores.
I never had any mouth sores. I was on Taxotere and Cytoxan. Best of luck to you and wishing the same for you!!
starting later this morning. (I up after taking my 6 @ 5 AM hr prior pill) When I talked to the pharmacist when picking up the meds I asked about the "magic mouthwash" and discovered that except for the addition of lidocaine (which makes it prescription) it something I have used since my kids were small for canker sores - mixed equal parts of liquid benadryl and mylanta (or milk of magnesium). I used the mylanta. Now my kids use it for their kids. The benadryl targets the histamines and the mylanta coats and soothes. Both of these are OTC but this time I may opt for the lidocaine addition with the prescription to add some numbing effect.
MyTurn - I'm encouraged that you didn't get the mouth sores with the cocktail. I know each of us is different but I have always hated the canker sores. Did you use any preventative things?
Thanks for you good thoughts and wishes today. Lola0 -

Lola, no, I didn't do anything preventative. I guess I was just one of the lucky ones. I really had minimal side effects from the chemo. I had some bone pain from the Nuelasta shot but I managed to control that with Tylenol. Food didn't have a lot of flavor for a couple weeks after chemo, but now that I'm done, my taste buds are back. Good luck to you and make sure to let us know how you're doing.0 -
I didn't......
get mouthsores, I was on taxotere/carboplaten, and the inside of my mouth felt like it was all scratched up with sandpaper. I was prescribed the Magic Mouthwash and hated it immensely. I used it though - i hated the numbing effect and the taste was horrible, even with no tastebuds.
