Hi Patti,
I'm not sure if they have this in your area, but a friend of mine got a juicer from FREECYCLE. Everything is free. I've never been on the website, but check it out. Maybe you'll find one like Jean did. Ya never know.

I am trying to get into the juicing but struggling with the taste.. My favorite so far because it is mild is cucumber, celery and raspberries! I have a Breville juicer and it works well but is heavy and takes up a lot of counter space.0 -

Claudia!
I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen you in awhile unless you've been posting on threads that I hadn't read! Great to see you again!
My first juicing experience was at a JuiceMan workshop that my sister dragged me to and we all bought juicers in solidarity to her new regime. I'm so glad I went. The thing that stuck with me all these years later (18+) was this:
CHEW YOUR JUICE!
Isn't that funny? The guy (it wasn't Jay Kordich) told us how important it was to chew our juice and get the digestive juices flowing in our mouths. I still do this.
By the way, where's your picture taken? The background looks beautiful.
peace, emily
sorry I hadn't
Enily,
sorry I hadn't replied. Yes..I think I remember reading he also said."swish it around and all around your mouth. Still have his books and get ideas from them.
Picture was taken in San Fransico at Twin Peaks last April.
3 years ago, yesterday, I was dx'd with cancer. Look at me know. I'm dancing with NED!!>>Grin>>
I read post most days and it appears all the great people, here, have good answers.
Love to read your posts, Emily.
Keep moving forward and yes......Peace!

Maybe start with carrots and apples, first. Personnally I like golden delicious. I like "sweet" and this adds the sweetness. Also, spinach is sweet (to me anyway).
Just some ideas. Emily has great ideas, too!
Keep with it.

have a hard time juicing
Hi, how do you drink or eat for that matter and not spend the entire day in the bathroom??? I have finally changed my diet to the BRAT diet for the past few days but I'm staying away from any roughage. I used to love fruit, we grow lots of it, but I have to really monitor my intake. How do you do it? No bowel problems??0 -
I like to juice & blend both
I love the taste or "real" juice. I do more fruit that veggie juices, but making your own "V8" juice is amazing tasting - tomomatoes + other veggies on hand (celery, parsley, carrot etc.)& I add a little lemon juice too. Very good. Last night I made a simple juice - 1 large apple, 1 plum & 1 avacodo. Both my daughter & I loved it & apple juice from the store is definitely not my fave - this was a vast improvement!
I like to have blended smoothies when I am not feeling well; for example the day after chemo. The are nutritious, comforting & easy to make. Sometimes my daughter makes me one before she goes to school - yum!0 -

hi knowwhen,
Wow, celery for me is not mild at all--kudos to you for your concoction.
When I juiced to heal my body from any lingering cancer (post surgery), I focused on juice that was packed full of colon healing or digestive supporting nutrients. Therefore my personal favorite Cancer Concoction was :
5-7 juicing carrots
1 apple
1 celery
handful parsley
handful spinach
1 small piece ginger
To this I added protein powder and flax seed (flax being a cancer fighter). The protein powder gave me some boost.
Later I added other veggies:
1-2 kale (start easy on the greens)
1/4 beet & greens
1/4 cuke
small chunk cabbage
4 romaine lettuce leaves
And now it just depends on what I have in my frig with carrots always being the base veggie.
So everyone finds what tastes good to them.
I love smoothies too and use fruit for the smoothies and veggies for the juice.
Cheers!

Thanks Claudia and Emily! I tried a golden delicious apple with a handful of baby spinach and baby carrots and it tasted great! I think part of my problem before was that I was trying to add protein powder to it as well which changed the taste and texture.. Will save the powder for my smoothies.
Another question- do you use the juice in place of meals, or between meals or with meals...
Also if whatever you juice manages to produce 12 ounces or something like that do you drink it all at once or is that more like 2 servings?

Hi Melanie,
when I was juicing to heal from cancer I juiced as part of my meals and as my meals- 1 qt jars 3x's/day (like in my photo) and my meals were basically macrobiotic....steamed veggies and brown rice kinda meals. I did this for 6 months and then some. For years now I have been on "maintenance" juicing and only do about 16 oz. Most recently though, due to some severe allergic reactions, I have been on an elimination and challenge diet and drink a 32 oz jar of juice for supper. But that's just me.
And yes, you want to drink it all at one sitting since the live enzymes start to die off after 30 minutes according to the experts. And "chew" your juice to get the digestive juices flowing in your mouth. digestion starts there.
In Gerson's Therapy approach, for cancer curing, one drinks 12/ 8oz fresh juices/day.
Hope this helps.

I too have been reading all these postings on juicing and have the same concern. I had surgery last year right before Thanksgiving (anterior resection) and started chemo and radiation in Feb of this year and "finished" in Mar. I am now lactose intolerant so have to watch what I eat so I am worried about too much fiber or lactose related issues. Did anyone respond back to your questions?0 -

Did you attempt to just drink juice for 3 weeks to clean out your body? I have chosen to start juicing and I need to do something dramatic because I have been on chemo for 6 months and again for 4 months and I don't want to go on it again.0 -

Great thread!!
I can't remember if i told you that i finally found a used Champion!! I love the thing! I used to have the juiceman II, which seemed to give more juice, but after reading the Gerson recommendations, i scrapped it. He says definitely NO centrifugal juicers because they destroy too much of the cell walls and cause faster oxidation. Of course those are the cheaper ones, usually. Anyone interested in finding a used juicer, try eBay. My dream is for a Green Star, but those are $450!!
Here is the juice i do everyday (all organic):
carrots
apples
celery
blueberries
banana
1 tsp. superfood
1 tsp. probiotics
1 tsp. goji powder
1 tsp. cacao powder
1 tsp. MSM powder
I juice the carrots, apples, and celery, then put all that in a blender to mix the rest. It doesn't taste that great, but i'm pretty used to it now, and i know it's super healthy.
Hugs!
Krista
How long have you been doing this? I have been on chemo for 6 months and then for 4 months. My husband wants to by a green star. It is so expensive but he says we will save money because it will get more juice out of the veggies. I am ready to invest my time and money but I was wonder how long you have been doing it and how your energy level is? What is your diet like. I am a vegaterian. Can you really get use to the juice?0 -
When can I start juicing
I recently underwent rectal resection surgery and have a temporary ileostomy with the reversal surgery scheduled in 3 weeks. (YEAH!!) I have just started FOLFOX treatments and will continue them for about 4 months after the reversal surgery. When I first found out I had cancer I did a lot of research and juicing came up a lot. I would like to get started on it but am not sure if I should while I have the ileostomy or how soon after the surgery I could start. Any of you juicers have any experience with this?0 -

I have an ileostomy( for 4 1/2 years permanent-no colon) and if you can eat solid food ,then you can drink
juice. It may give you a bit of diarreah tho.
good luck with your surgery
I think I'm a bit jealous.!
GOD BLESS
