(Update)Dear all, heart burn is solved,now it is the soreness

Hi dear all,my hubby just finished first round of Folfox today,he started to feel heart burn this morning and last night he couldn't sleep well because he just felt uncomfortable all over.The heart burn just comes and goes,it is terrible feeling.Has anybody had heart burn when you were on the same chemo?How did you deal with it?Any suggestions and ideas will be appreciative.Thank you very much.

Update:Lots of thanks to you,dear all.My hubby feels much better today.He took the Pepcid last night,looks like it worked.Now it is another issue,he feels sore all over.Did you feel the same way after chemo?Then what did you do to ease the soreness of the body.

I've never had heartburn type problems except during FOLFOX. Pepcid AC worked very well for me, too.

heart burn
Dear FFML I wish i had some easy answers for this one but I don't. I just finished 6 months of Xelox and often often had heartburn and just plain abdominal pain often quite high up in the middle. I have been on plain fluorourcil and then one course of xeloda only and then finally this last round of xeloda plus oxaliplatin....i had heartburn with all of the regimes.
I tried prescription drugs like losec that attempt to reduce stomach acid and sometimes I just used antiacid across the counter stuff...try being more upright...have you got a big chair that hubby could sleep in? Heat sometimes helps...I propped the head of my bed up with bits of 2by4's.

heartburn pain
Hi. I had terrible pain, heartburn like when on chemo. The doctor tried several things like pepcid and zantac, the one that worked for me was Nexium, works like magic for me. You can ask the doctor if he can get a prescription for relief. Hopes that they can find something that will help with this.

I get hit almost every night with heartburn.. It sucks. Now I take a Pepcid every night aroud 7pm. WORKS GREAT!!

hi if pepcid doesn't do the trick try omeprazole or prilosec OTC. I have to take it everyday to control my heartburn.

My husband had terrible heartburn with his first round of chemo. We stopped dexamethazone and started zofran and pariet and he has had no more problems. He has had 28 rounds of chemo so far.

I had it so bad one day I thought I needed to go to the doctor but I took some tums and then more tums and a couple more and by the next day I was feeling better. I don't know if mine was caused by chemo because it happened after I ate something really greasy but I know I didn't feel well. Hope he is feeling better now.

I've been on it from day one of my dx. Looking back I think that was one of the few signs I had that I had cancer. It's not an OTC drug, you need a script for it but it works well

You know Phil I have heard a couple of people say that about heartburn and cancer. Now I don't want to spook anybody out there without a dx but for six months before my colon dx I had heartburn....they did stress tests thinking heart etc and all along it was the undetected colon. hummmm

My husband never had heart
My husband never had heart burn before,he believes it was from the chemo.

I also had horrid heartburn
I also had horrid heartburn before the cc dx. I was on priolsec 2x daily for easily a year. I did take it throughout chemo, but think by then it was only a habit. Accidentally went off of it about a year ago (ran out of pills and kept forgetting to pick up more) and have never needed them again.

Soreness.......
Hydration will help...tylenol or aspirin . His body is trying to fight off chemical warfare being waged on his body. He is going to be sick, sore and a lot of other things before he is finished with chemo. The main thing is to keep the Drs informed so that them as well as him can try to keep a step ahead of the game for his sake. They have medicines to fix whatever hurts so if he needs them just have him ask .....It will get better......

Thank you,clift.I remember on the chemo teaching day,the nurse told us not to take aspirin or tylenol because these pain killers may make your body hide fever or other symptom.Next Tuesday we will see the oncologist,we will see if he can give any medications to ease the soreness.You know,this Folfox is really nasty,my husband just couldn't find a comfortable position to sleep,it was pretty tortured.....

your right and I am sorry I forgot.....
about the fever that we are suppose to be on the lookout for during chemo. The farther out from post op chemo I get the less I remember the details about it. I apologize for the mistake. Yes, the Folfox is mean stuff but it usually does the trick...Be especially careful about the neuropathy (nerve damage with fingers and toes). My fingers are almost 100% again but my toes and foot pads I think are permanent...No problem though, Its a reminder of what I beat.....kind of a perspective slap on the back of my head...LOL........Keep the smiles going for him and ya'll will be fine..........Clift

One more note ....I was lucky enough to have a hot tub that was sold along with the house I bought and I get into it during the cold months (starting anytime now)..It is really relaxing and does wonders for my soreness and also helped and helps me sleep...hot baths or showers would probably help also.....if he is sore it may be from lack of exercise no matter how slight or from to much either way. It could be a light buildup of lactic acid in the muscles...The Dr should be able to tell ya and help ya........
