Is anyone else afraid of getting their first mamogram after finishing treatment? I am. My onc has said that he feels i only need my annual checks, which will be this december. I think i will take a friend with me, because i honest to God think i will probably throw up.

I wasn't afraid of recurrence but don't like the pain of flattening.

I was a bit "afraid" of my first mammogram after surgery and treatment ... and I won't lie ... it did hurt ... but ... it was worth the few seconds of pain to get the word that everything looks fine! :-) I think most of the mammo techs are very careful and understand that we are afraid and that we know it will hurt. My tech was very gentle ... but... it still hurt ... :-)

    hugs.

    canders,
You may want to start your own thread/post so others can reply to your questions.

Welcome, Candors! I had exactly the same procedures beginning in July. It is doable!
As I write this, I am completely done with the treatments! I did not have to miss any work for the treatments (I did have to miss for other reasons, though.)

I want to wish you the best--hugs & prayers sent to you....

I wasn't terrified but I was certainly uneasy. My lumpectomy was in January followed my radiation and I had my first followup in July. My tech was great and it was one of the easier "squishes" that I've had and even better, it was NED. I can't say it's great but a whole lot easier than some of the other stuff we've been through!

    I had the same treatment.
    Canders,

I had the same treatment. Not fun but definately doable. It will be over before you know it. I missed 5 days of work for the surgery and went to work every day after radiation. I was a little tired after week 4 but I kept the area well lubed with Aloe so the burning was controlled. I agree that you should start a new thread. Lots of us went through what you are. During surgery they will check out your lymph nodes. If there is no cancer be sure to request the OncoTypeDX test. Keep us posted on your progress. You're through the worst part which is the waiting for the test results.
