Hello all. Husband George diagnosed with colon cancer, Stage IV, mets to liver and lung via colonoscopy on 3/27. Transverse colon resection 4/2, just completed all 12 chemo treatments of Anzamet, Decadron, Oxaliplatin, Leukevoran, Avastin and 5FU along with the 48 hour fanny pack. Drugs were administered over a 2 day period. Oncologist very pleased so far and we are set up for scans and such next week then what I gather, more chemo, just don't know what. I have been absorbing information from you wonderful people and it has helped tremendously and finally decided to join in. My thinking at this point is after the scans and such and we see where we stand it might be the time to seek that second opinion. We are in Michigan and I'm thinking the University of Michigan or Karmanos Cancer Institute, both are very close. When first diagnosed things moved very quickly and we are very pleased with all treatment so far from the surgeons to the oncologist, but, I get the impression a second opinion does not hurt and to weigh all the options. That's about it. When I figure this system out I hope to post often but I do check the boards almost every day and want to thank each and every one of you for your wealth of information.

    Welcome
    Hi there,
Glad you finally posted here..It really helps to come here and talk...
I would get a second opinion..It can never hurt and like I tell everyone it will get rid of the "what ifs"..I was able to get one before my surgery and treatment and I was very glad I did..I went to Sloan Kiterring Memorial Cancer Ins. in NYC they told me what my onco doc said was right on exactly what they would recommend so therefor that gave me GREAT peace of mind..Good luck..............JULIE

    Welcome to the board!
Hi - Glad you've jumped in!
You guys have really been through a lot - Wow!
I agree with Julie and say go get the second opinion. Someone else with cancer put it this way "you don't buy the first house you look at or the first car you look at, so why wouldn't you comparison shop when it comes to your life?" Even if they say the same thing you've already heard, you'll at least feel better because you won't have the nagging doubt.

    take care,
    Adrian

    Thanks for the welcome
Yes George has been through a lot but lucky for him, his side effects have been minimal compared to most and he continued to work full time though it all only leaving work early for infusions and of course the surgery. I mentioned to him about going on long term disability and possibly ss disabilty but he will have no part of that at this time. He has been a real trooper. The cold, some neuropathy and fatigue were manageable and didn't slow him down. Tina
