Hi Shackie!
Does your brother have any stool softeners? if not, have him pick up some Doc-o-lax at his pharmacy, and I also use Miralax everyday to keep me regular with my temporary colostomy, I just add a capful to my apple of crangrape juice, and you can't even taste it in there, I was also prescribed the Doc-O-lace, and Colace, but you can get these over the counter, make sure he doesn't wait too long too go either, my doctor had told me I had to go to the hospital if I hadn' gone in 2 days, in case of blockages, but hope some of that helps!

hes going to dr for radiation today hopefully he will ask. he went to urologist yesterday to get his pee bag checked, he didnt even look at it, he had some blood in the bag, dr said he wanted to do surgery and go a differnt way, cancer dr already said he was to weak to have any surgery, i dont guess the dr keep in contact. and he ask about constipation he never answered. i dont kno if there not being aggresive enuf. but everyday its something new going wrong. his pain started in may, he didnt go to dr till oct, cuz he cudnt pee. i think he prolly waited to long. and then so many differnt answers to how bad it is. 3 said no hope oncologist said no surgery no chemo until his healthe got better. and he cud have 5 years, but another said 2 months, and another said they cant get it all. so we dont kno anything really. but hes plugin along. takin everyday he can get, thanks so much for your help. he was needing quik relief last night. but if hes not eating that good i wudnt think he had to go everyday, but of course i dont kno how that works with part of his colon gone. i will tell them bout miralax and colace. mayb he will figure out what works for him. thanks so much. tina0 -

I hope he does better, he really has to stay hydrated. My onc focused on how important was especially if you have an ostomy, it keeps things moving along. I hate water, I have to force it down, but try to drink at least 3 bottles now, including juices I like. I love apple juices, and crangrape, and put the miralax in there, it works pretty fast, but if he's not eating, then he's got nothing to excrete, so maybe he just isn't constipated, he just has nothing there to put out. At least with the water, it would help abit, and he really needs to eat, I know it's harder said then done, chemo for some reason makes me not want to eat much either, but after the hookup, I'm such a pig..lol...especially on sweets that I actually limited myself, and opted for a veggie tray this week, it was good. Tell him as hard as it is, to force himself just to get something in his belly, for strength, I Know he doesn't like those Ensure, but maybe some ice cream in it will help, make a shake or smoothie, something to help go down, I really hope everything is ok!

The doctor had me taking stool softeners with calace for the constipation, and drinking sports drink to help bring up my energy, and I couldn't eat any thing that was cooked with salt at first because it tasted so strong.I think he should see some better docters, those dr.s are not being honest with him.Unless there is alot of blood in the bag,I wouldn't worry about it.I get a small amout of blood in my bag,I've had mine for almost 1,and a half years, and the dr. said that sometimes it bleeds because the tissue there is so sensative. He can try eating ice cream, and green chile, they worked for me,also the dr. told me to eat alot of beans[protein]and spicy food.I hope he gets better.0
