My dad
My parents are leaving for Pittsburgh again this morning. Tomorrow my dad will have a CT scan to see how he's progressed. I'm very nervous. Can I please request some extra prayers for him!!! We really need to get his some good news. I know I'm always saying that, but we never seem to get the good news we need. He has decided that this will be his last visit to Pittsburgh until he get's to a point of possibly having surgery. SO, we are in the process of having him transferred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD which is much closer to home. Hopefully we'll find out tomorrow if the clinical study drug did the job correctly. He's now starting to have his hair fall out, after the 6th cycle and the odd thing, his eye lashes are coming in VERY dark and thick. Funny, your hair falls out, but you'll have great eye lashes!! Anyway, please say an extra prayer for him. I'm not sure how he'll handle the news if the liver is now involved. It's so scary right now.
Thanks!!
Erika

your Dad
Hi Erika,
What is your Dad's name? some how my chemo brain does not work all the time. any kind of scan is scary for a cancer patient so I will be sending prayers his way and hope he gets that good news. He will be in good hands at Hopkins. I live in Middle River and as I said before getting my care at St. Joseph's. Hope it is all good news. That is funny about the thick dark eyelashes!!! take care, hugs and prayers!!

Thanks so much for the extra prayers!!! He's German, so in cancerland he goes by his 1st name of Widolf, to everyone else he's Gunther, his middle name. It's so weird to hear him be called Widolf. It's like there are 2 different people at times. Widolf is a very sick man, but Gunther is my dad, my boys granddad. It's all so weird. I pray for good news for everyone on this site.
Hugs and prayers to all!!

Hi Erika,
Boy hope the news is so good, put him on my prayer list and have been praying for him before I knew his name. I love the cancerland reference. This is sick but my family are black humor experts and after so many worse news phone calls from the doctors, I told my husband I was going to answer the phone, "Cancerland, may I help you?" It is sick but my family got it and we got some laughs out of it sometimes you have to laugh at the enemy and make lite because all of you are going thru it. We laugh we cry we keep going on and thanks to all of you on this board we are not alone!!!! take care,

Erika,
Just read your post my prayers are always with you and your parents. I keep praying that
the scan will not light up on his liver and the study worked. Let me know as soon as you hear something I will be home most of the week getting ready for Al's big day.
God willing your dads will come next.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED A PAIR OF MOE'S BIG GIRL PANTIES
Erica,
sounds like you might need a pair of my BGP for you, I do know how strange it is if anybody I will keep saying prayers for your dad, I wish mine was still here, Please know when his hair on his head grows back it will come back funny too, my husbands did. I know what you mean about the light up, we had one done and I was worried also about what was going to show on Jeff's but thank goodness his came back good. You see, we all worry because this CANCER thing has us all scared and we think the worst but know everything is okay. Know I am here if you need to vent as you know I have been there and done that,
Just don't forget your BGP you just might need them.
Take Care

I love your post---it is bittersweet. I know what you mean. It brings tears to my eyes. So many ask "so how's your dad?" I have a hard time answering---glass 1/2 empty or glass 1/2 full, My mom & dad's optimism or the man that has lost weight and doesn't want his picture taken... The hope that we all have or the statistics that we have heard that is stuck in the back of our heads...
I honestly have a hard time explaining to my 4 kids---I don't want to lie and hide truth by being TOO optimistic---but then a little voice says "we don't know the answers--don't be pessimistic!"
I can't explain it---but I am becoming more comfortable with it all---"both" dads even though I get very sad at times bc of the unknown. But we have each other here....and somehow..things will work out!
Hang in there---my "sista" in cancerland!

Thank you all for the extra prayers!!! Today is the day. I'm on pins and needles. I know we aren't going to know anything today, but hopefully by Friday or Monday we will. I've been praying hourly, hoping that God will spare my dad from anymore bad news and to spare him and let him live. I don't know if it's wrong to pray for the same thing hourly, but it does bring me some peace.
Cancerland is the only way to refer to this horrible EC. Cancerland is a terrible place to be. I hate that we all have to be there, but we do have each other to lean on and to vent to. I'll let everyone know something as soon as I do. Please do say another extra prayer for him and my mom today. THANKS!!
Love, hugs and peace to all!!

I know what you mean about explaining things to the kids. My boys are 13 and 9. I tell them as much as I can without too many details. I shed a TON of tears over this, but not in front of my boys. They know cancer can kill and they know my dad is really fighting for his life. It's hard. I also have a hard time answering when people ask how my dad is, but at the same time I believe it's a little prayer having people ask. I'm also becoming more comfortable with it, it's an odd peace that I'm feeling, if that makes sense. It's all in God's hands and I know he has a plan for all of us.
I love the "sista" in cancerland!!
