Nervous and Scared

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in April 2009 and I had a partial nephrectomy on my left kidney. I am going to get a follow up CT scan next week and I am nervous. I'm not sure what to expect. Lately I have had a pain in my lower left back and I'm afraid it has something to do with my kidney. I am only 30 years old and I don't know how I'm going to take getting a CT scan every 6 months and feeling this nervous every time. Does anyone else feel the same or am I making too much of it?

Nervous is OKtomaza678 said:My right kidney was removed
My right kidney was removed in May of 2009. I will be going tomorrow for a 4 month recheck. I understand how you feel. If my tests tomorrow are clear, then I'm not going to worry about reoccurance.
We euphemistically call it "scanxiety". I've had 11 plus other types of tests since 2006. Being anxious prior to the test goes with the territory and is perfectly normal. But try not to let it overwhelm your life.
I'm assuming they'll be doing it with and without contrast, which means you will get to drink 2 bottles of barium sulfate. That stuff cleans you out. Soooo....wear a panty liner, take a package of diaper wipes, and a tube of cortisone or A&D cream. Then be prepared for a few fast trips to the bathroom.
Both of you-good luck.
