A Rare Cancer of the Trachea

Hello Everyone. I am the caregiver of a cancer patient. My husband had major surgery in Nov. 2006 to remove a tumor from his trachea and thyroid (Adnoid Cystic Carcinoma). The doctor performed a trachea re-section. He had 6 weeks of radiation after that but no chemo. I was wondering if anyone on this site has had this type of cancer or knows of someone who has. He has been thru alot in the past year and is still having issues. I, as the caregiver am having a very difficult time dealing with all of this. I'm constantly on edge, can't sleep, or eat sometimes. I would really like to communicate with anyone who is familiar with this type of cancer and the after effects of treatment.

    Hi Debbie,

    I had tonsilar cancer myself so I have no direct knowledge of what your hubby has but I can tell you this. A good caregiver is a MUST! (and if you lose sleep and cant eat tells me your a great CG!)
    You can find CG advice here, or on the Oral Cancer Foundation site as well as Gilda's club. I know he needs you right now, but you need to be good to yourself as well! If you need to "take a break" do not hesitate but to ask for help from friends, family, or from people at church, etc..... Keeping your self healthy in mind,body, and spirit is very important on your hubbies road to recovery!
