Has anyone had the H1N1 flu spray yet?? I"m not sure if I should get it or not. I do usually get the normal yearly flu shot so I"m thinking I should get this one too. Any thoughts?

    Flu Shots
Here in Texas there is very limited supply of H1N1. The virus is raging, but the shot is only available to front line workers.

I was wondering if I should get the normal flu shot and the H1N1 vaccine. I don't usually get the flu shot, but after diagnosis things might need to be different. Any advice appreciated.

They say that if you get the mist you should stay away from pregnant women, babies and anyone with a compromised immune system. So I'd say if you are on chemo or radiation you'd better think very long and hard before getting the mist. It contains live virus.

I'd already decided against H1N1 immunization. But now I think I had it two weeks ago anyway. I did get my regular flu shot today.

    spray -- shot
There will be both a nasal spray and a shot -- they're not the same, so you'll want to check which to get. I intend to get the shot when it becomes available. Since I'm over 49, I'm not eligible for the spray.

    I'm Scared.....
.....to get it, so I won't, I read somewhere that alot of doctors won't even be getting it, because there was hardly any testing on it since they put it out so fast, so if they aren't getting, I'm not either.

    H1N1
My doctor hasn't decided if he wants his patients to have it. Even though, he lost two of his cancer patients in last month to the swine flu.

I haven't been getting the flu shots and I've been working in a hospital. So I probably won't get it this year either.

    Well...
I guess since things usually happen in threes he's waiting on that. He sounds scary to me. From what I've heard, ALL health care workers MUST get the shots. Maybe in your state it's different. At Sloan the nurses just got the regular shot, the swine shot is next. I'm getting my regular one through work in less than an hour. I've never had a flu shot before and I've rarely had the flu, I can't even remember when I last had it. 20-30 years ago maybe??? Something tells me not to screw around this year. Maybe I got caught up in all the hype but I'd hate to go out by a virus after getting this far.

    I checked with my Oncologist
I checked with my Oncologist yesterday re: the H1N1 shot. He said unless the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit has changed their policy, I can't have any kind of shot, measles, mumps, polio, flu, you name it, much less the H1N1 vaccine. for at least 5 more months.

The Oncology Nurse told me that they have 3 Chemo patients currently undergoing Chemo treatmemt, that have the virus, but are showing absolutely no symptoms...so far, at least.
    That's good news.

    H1N1
They gave my husband the regular flu shot on his last visit to his Onc. He asked her if he should get the H1N1 shot also. Then he asked her if she was going to get one. She said she didn't think she was. He is going to ask again on his next visit.

    Flu
I asked my oncologist about it and she said yes to get one, but I told her everytime I got a flu shot I ended up with the flu. She just said it was actually up to me. But with my immune system being so low right now, I don't want to chance getting the vaccine and then up with the flu because of it.
