Good Morning everyone! I finished five rounds of Folfox and now am on my second round of Xeloda. Both of my feet have become painful and very red. I use Eucerin Calming Cream several times during the day. Any suggestions?

    Hello Lizzy D.

Your post caught my attention this morning - hurts me that you are hurting in your feet, I know the pain all too well.

It sounds like you are "creaming" it and doing all you can that way - I used Bag Balm, found at your local drug store...my condition was already full blown by the time I found it, my idiot onc never gave me the heads up that any of this would happen, so I found out the hard way.

But the Bag Balm did allow me to put shoes on and helped ease things so I could stand and walk, because I had to stay on the job...I used it 3x a day, in the morning before work, right when I got home from work, and right before I went to bed....my feet were still sunburnt red and they hurt and they continued to peel, but at least I could move.

You might try this - maybe it will help.

The only other thing that I can tell you is to talk with your onc about adjusting the PILL DOSAGE and the CYCLE that you are taking the Xeloda.

When I first started, I was taking 8 pills a day @ 500mg each = 4000 mgs a day...we were on the 14 day on - 7 day off cycle...toxicity really builds up very quickly with this approach and it was hard on my guts too.

We adjusted my dosaged down to 6 pills a day @ 500mgs each = 3000 mgs a day...and the cycle went to 7 days on - 7 days off...this helped tremenously...not only with the toxicity, but also my wallet :)

So, I'd talk to old Dr. Onc and see what he/she has to say about that one.

You are in my thoughts...as James Taylor once said, "I've got Carolina on my mind."

    Take care, honey :)

I've got one more post coming out on Sunday or Monday - please look for it as I always want to hear from you.

    Feet
When I was on Xeloda I didn't have the hand or feet problems, but you might be on a different dosage than I. I am sorry you are having problems. The Eucrine cream I used to use on my kids feet when they were little because of extreme feet peeling and bleeding and it did help. I hope that you get some answers to your questions. It has to be awful pain for you, especially when you are trying to wear socks, shoes and mostly walk.

This is a new experience for me. The cream does help. I will look for the Bag Balm and continue until my next onc visit (unless it gets worse). Thanks for your note. My best to you.

    B-6
Hi my husband will start Xeloda in a couple of weeks. His doc will have him take 5 pills twice a day. She also told him he needed to take 100mm vitamin B-6 with this for the hand and foot thing. Hope you get it better. Paula

    I found some Udder Cream!
I found some Udder Cream. It wasn't so easy here. I went to a feed & see store and they knew exactly what I was talking about. This one is in a tube (not Bag Balm but also recommended by the store clerk). It has lots of vitamins, aloe, etc. I love it. Thanks, Craig! Great uncovered secret!!

    Bag Balm
I know this sounds strange but you might look for Bag Balm at Quilt Stores (Stores that sell quilting supplies, usually not the big chains, but local stores.) Quilters use both Udder cream and Bag Balm because their fingers get so sore when they hand quilt. I will check further and see if there is an online store that has this.

    I get blisters from Xeloda
Hi, I get blisters on my feet if I"m on too much Xeloda. I take 6 pills for 1 week then I'm off for two weeks. Anymore and I can't walk. No cream helps with the blisters. Sorry.

    Bag Balm
I did find a web site that sells Bag Balm, It is www.mamasloghousequiltshop.com. I am not sure where they are located and do not know any thing about this company, but most quilt shops are run by honest people.

I also have read that Bag Balm is less expensive at feed stores.

    B-6
    Hi Lizzy,

I loaded up on B-6 before treatment and then carried on with ot while on xeloda. I didn't have any of the hand or foot sores. Whether it was because of the B6 or not I don't know, but it was recommended to me.

I've also heard the udder cream/bag balm is the way to go.

    Good luck... Rob; in Van
