Hi, Looking for those who are taking Coumadin, a blood thinner, to avoid blood clots. Just wondering what your dosage is....mine is 7.5mg 4 days a week and 5mg the other 3 days. Wondering how high they go with this as mine has been increasing. Any info would be appreciated, Manny

Shouldn't they be doing weekly labs?
As far as I know they should be taking weekly Coumadin levels. You might want to ask your dr about it ASAP.

Thanks for your concern:) It's nice! I do get the labs weekly for PT and INR which measures the thickness of your blood (I believe I got that right) the goal is to be between 2.0 and 3.0 on INR in order for it to be in the therapuetic range and avoid clots. If it ffalls below 2 your blood is too thick..if it goes above 3 than it's too thin and you can bleed easily! Mine keeps dropping below 2 therefore they increase in the Coumadin. Thanks again for your concern, Mannie

    On Coumadin
    Manny,

My husband is also on Coumadin due to blood clots in his lungs after his recent resection and colostomy. They are trying to regulate it so he is now taking 4 mg each night until the next blood test. I guess the drs really play around with the dosage to try and get the INR to the 2.0-3.0 level. He will be on it at least 3 months. Good Luck.

    coumadin
Yes, I take 5 mil a day. About 6 months ago I had tremendous pressure and redness in my face. I ended up with a blood clot near the cathater of my port. That is when I was put on coumadin I spent a week in the hosp. About 3 weeks ago same thing happened. I had to have emergency angioplasty surgery, I had a complete blockage from my leg to my neck! I was still on the coumadin. I do have bloodwork 2 times a week to make sure the counts are ok. from what I understand it seems hard to regulate sometimes. they think I had the blockage due to scar tissue from the port. What stinks is I'm supposed to start my chemo up again on Thurs. but only if my blood counts are o.k. I hope so. I want to get going with treatment! best of luck to you!
