    Here it is half-way through
Here it is half-way through the weekend and I'm finally able to post the plans. I've been busy - SLEEP, SLEEP! and then NAP! The first week at work wasn't bad but I didn't make my goal of going home when tired. Boy, am I glad it's fall break this next week. I have to work, but NO KIDS! so it's a laid back week. My biggest treat (besides resting this weekend) is tomorrow my daughter is giving me an early birthday present. I getting a Facial! They asked me if I wanted the "Anti-aging one" but heck, I've earned this 60 year old face, just relax me is all I ask. It's at the spa where she works as a massage therapist and she said if she doesn't have a client at the same time (nothing booked yet) she sneak in and give me a foot and hand massage while the other gal is working on my face. Such pampering! Everyone sounds like they are having interesting weekends. Be good to yourselves! Lola

    Thanks Lola...
You have just inspired me! For the past 4-5 months, all I have been told is "no polish, no jewlry, no make-up, no deoderant...." because of the numerous test and treatments. I did not get a manicure or pedicure this whole year. Had to keep my belly ring out (yep..I had a belly ring!!) for so long that now it won't go back in. I am going to miss it, but getting too old to care. I love massages, but haven't been able to have any, due to healing and additional nerve problems. But.....I never thought of a facial!! I have never had one, but there isn't anything they are doing to my face...so whala!! What are the benefits of a facial anyway? Will I look like Cinderella when they are done? LOL Pammy

    Mimi,
    A question about

    Mimi,

A question about exercise and working with a trainer ... are you able to lift weights? I don't know if you had a masc. or not ... I posted a thread a few weeks ago about mast. and weight lifting. Just wondering, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of exercises are you doing? Weightraining and working out is a big part of my life and a part I really don't want to give up. Just wondering! :)

    Weight lifting
Dawne, I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy with 2 nodes removed. So, I don't have most of the lifting restrictions and not nearly the same risk for lymphadema as those who underwent mastectomy and axillary node dissection. In fact, no one ever mentioned these thing to me, so I started working with my trainer right after chemo ended, before radiation. If I had had a mastectomy, however, I would have been much more careful. I firmly believe that you can get back to your previous level of fitness and resume your weightlifting activities, but you must do so under the advice of your onc. or a physical therapist at first. You don't want to develop lymphadema because you can't really reverse it once you get it. You definitely should NOT have to give up your healthy habits, but you must start in the right way. Tell these things to your oncologist and have him recommend a physical therapist or give you guidelines on how to start exercising and weight training again. A book I found helpful was called something like "Fitness after Breast Cancer." I commend you for getting right back out there. Good luck!

    Facial sounds great!
I think I've only had one in my life and would definitely like to try it again. Have fun!

So, I ended up taking a cab to see my friend and have brunch in the city. My husband took the car this morning to go to his softball game and I was planning on taking the bus/metro to my friend's place in city. However, with the Sunday bus schedule it turned out that I had to be on the bus at like 9:30 this morning! So, I called my favorite cab company and paid way too much go cab it. But it only took 20 minutes that way. Brunch was at this really cute sun-filled restaurant in my old DC neighborhood. Really good food and a beautiful day for it. Met Simon after his game and we came home together. Now, I need to throw the laundry in, make the salmon and vegetables for tomorrow, and then get ready to go into the city yet again. We're going to a friend's house to plan out a camping trip next week. Hope everyone is holding on to the last hours of the weekend!

    Felt oh so good!
Pammy - I had never had one and it was awesome. Steam, hot towels, masks (3 different ones - 2 for face and one for eyes) and then gentle massage of lotions on my face and upper neck. Because of the mastectomy I only had her go to my clavicle because I'm too tender still. That plus a scalp massage (still have my hair since chemo doesn't start for a few more weeks). I may not look like Cinderella but certainly feel like it! What was nice was that my daughter didn't have a client for a massage during my facial and came in a did a foot and hand massage as well. Talk about heaven. She did a gentle lymphatic drain massage on my left arm and was able to show the aesthetician a couple tricks. My plan is to go back half-way through chemo (if Ok'd) and add a bald scalp massage as well. TEE! HEE! Ready for the new work week. Lola

    Thanks for the Book, Mimi!
I've been surprised at the lack of information I've been able to find about working out after breast cancer. I guess I'm not looking in the right places! Thank you so much for the book recommendation. I will definitely check it out!

    Thanks again, mimi! :)
