When I cut my hair...

Thanks, Mimi and Pat. I
Thanks, Mimi and Pat. I just ordered bangs yesterday and wig liner. So far I have 5 wigs ranging from blond to red. I did try one over my hair last night and didn't fit well. I've got very thick hair, though, and didn't have it tucked in anything. I'm sure it will fit better on a smooth head (I can't bring myself to say bald yet). Yes, it's getting closer to losing it, probably 2-3 weeks since I start chemo on Monday. We have no choice in the matter. I'll be on Taxotere and Cytoxan, as far as I know, maybe a third drug if bone is involved. I have 1 cap so far. Walmart doesn't really have any selection.0 -

Laurissa,
If you haven't checked it out yet, the ACS has a great site, called tlc, for hats, scarves, headwraps, and various hairpieces that you can wear with hats. It's at tlcdirect.org. Great selection and customer service, and very reasonable prices. And they have a lot of stuff on sale and clearance right now, so some good steals.

But unless you have experience in weaving wigs or something similar, I think it would be fairly difficult to make it look decent. Maybe you could take it to a wig shop and have them do something like that?
That brings to mind one of my residents I had in the Nursing Home I worked at. Her daughter made little sweaters for small teddy bears out of guess what? HAIR she combed off of her dogs! What talent!0 -

I purchased my wigs from the TLC catalog, and I was very pleased. Alot of people thought it was my hair, or they were just being kind! The wig will fit better after you lose your hair, which I will warn you is very sad. But it will grow back very nicely. I also lost my eyebrows and eye lashes, just wanted to warn you that might happen. I lost mine in the summer, so I bought a really nice pair of Coach sunglasses and wore them alot. It is important to wear sunglasses since your eyelashes act as a shield for yours eyes. And who cares if it is a cloudy day! My lashes grew back thin, so I do need to wear mascara. Take care0 -

Thanks Traci and Meena. I've looked at tlc, they have nice things. I've only ordered from Paula Young so far. I looked at The Wig Company, too.
If you are still determined to use your own hair, I aksed the LGFB volunteer today about your idea. She said if you had the patience, you could glue your hair to a piece of material, then sew it into a cap. You do have beautiful hair and I know it must be tough letting it go!
Hugz,
