OK. It has been a long month. First, after 3 chemos, Mom's cancer has shrunk but not enough to operate without putting her at great risk. That sucks.
#2. Her oncologist told me today that they found clear cells in her fluid that they removed from her abdomen. All she said was that can be a highly resistant form of cancer to the chemo.
#3. They wanted to check out my sister and I. My sister's CA-125.NOrmal. I came back with a 42 and then 3 weeks later 43. Now they want to take my ovaries. I was hanging in there really well until today.
My mother's oncologist is wonderful and I just didn't get a good vibe from her about my mother. They all meet with surgeon Monday.
in the mean time, I think I may be going crazy with all this and my own damn ovaries. Any thoughts?

    MSKCC
I saw on a different post that your mom is being treated at MSKCC. I too am being treated there. I'm curious to know who her surgeon and oncologist are.

Did you guys do the BRCA 1 and 2 test? I'm sure it's very scary for you!!! Are you being seen at mskcc or your own gyn?

Yup, she's at MSK as we call it. Her oncologist is Dr. Bell-McGuinn and her surgeon is Dr. Barakat (sp.). I am in MN and fly out there to visit. My Dr. is at Mayo. I have no diagnosis of cancer at this time but am beginning to freak as a result of the CA-125. First one was 43, the next was 45. But it's not a good diagnostic tool. But when the second one came in, my doc wanted the ovaries to come out. I called MSK for a second opinion. It's a tough disease to catch early. If my mother hadn't been diagnosed, I wouldn't even know. I won't have the results of the BRCA until early Nov. Where do you live and do you have a husband/partner to support help you through this nightmare with 2 such beautiful boys?

    Young
I know you are much younger than I. However, I would have those suckers out ASAP and tested. In the scheme of things, they are not that important to save if healthy and very important to lose if cancerous.
Just wish I had had some reason for a surgery before OVCA! Saundra

Hi Saundra, they come out Monday. Same day my mother meets with her surgeon to see if there has been enough shrinkage to do her surgery.

    ovaries
    Lisa,

I too would have them removed. I am BRACA 2 positive. My sister and daughter were tested after me. Both are positive. My sister was 48 when she had a total hysterectomy this year. My daughter is 33 and will be 34 next week. She will have a total hysterectomy after she is 35. Said she wanted to be around to see her 3 children grow up (5, 3, 11 months). Both elected total hysterectomy b/c of gene mutation.

Don't know if mutation was from mom's side or dad's. Dad still living, Mom died of breast cancer. Pretty good chance it was mom. She had hysterectomy at 29 years of age. Getting breast cancer at 60 was not a red flag.

Anyways, long story short, I'd go for at least ovaries out. Had I known.............stage 3C did whisper but oh so softly.
