Dental Treatment Pre-Radiation

I am preparing to begin treatment in a couple of weeks, and have visited my dentist for cleaning etc.. Is there anything else you all would recommend that I talk to the dentist about prior to beginning tmnt, such as flouride molds? What have been your experiences?

    include floride treatment
    Hi doit...
    My Dr suggested cleaning and floride treatment, with the same/similiar combination every four to six months following radiation.
    If you are getting radiation to the head, there is a good chance of reduced salivary gland action which helps keep teeth clean, and the radiation is hard on tooth enamel thus the frequent floride treatments.

    if you got metal fillings
    if you got metal fillings try to get them done in non metal material or get a mouth guard made. Should have a flouride tray made also.

    Same here. floride trays,
    Same here. floride trays, cleaning and removal of anything questionable. I remember the floride trays were expensive and didn't fit that good anyway. If money is an issue I think they sell generic ones at walgreens which would work just as well.

    I saw my dentist prior to starting treatment -He told me he had far too much invested in my teeth - he fixed anything that needed to be done, fitted me for a custom tray to fill with fluoride, gave me the fluoride and showed me how to do it and when. I had to call him the other day because a filling fell out, he got me right in today and fixed it. Your dentist is an important team member and has good information to share - good luck with everything.

    Insurance Denial On extractions before Radiation and Chemo

    My husband had to have all of his teeth extracted before chemo and radiation could begin.  It had to be done in a surgical hospital setting due to the complications of his mass and restricted airway.  We were even warned that a trach could be possibly placed.  He was not a candidate for office surgery due to his complications.  Has anyone else in the cancer forum faced a similar situation that you would like to share?  Now, we are left with a 50,000.00 bill that keeps rising.  Any experiences or suggestions would be appreciated.  i have appealed, but my only option now is filing a claim through OAH.
