Ladies, it's Monday: What are your goals this week?
So, I have several goals this week:
1) I'd like to wake up at 7 AM every morning and eat a healthy breakfast before work
2) I'd like to keep up my appearance and pick out outfits that make me look put together in the morning. That means IRONING.
3) I'd like to cycle at least 3 times this week
4) I'd like to be more productive after work -- whether that means reading, watching a film, or working on my editing. I don't want to just sit on the couch.
5) I'd like to be uncompromising on my healthy eating and cooking. That means lots of fruit, vegetables, and autumn cooking
So, what are your goals this week? Hope a few of you are interested in this!
Mimi

This is a great idea. If I make a list, I am more likely to accomplish some of the things on it!
My goals for the week:
1) Swim at least 3 times - really work that lymph node arm for better range of motion
2) Work out at the gym 2 times
3) Not worry so much about putting chemo poison in my veins (I have to work on some positive mental imagery. I don't like drugs of any kind so this is a tough one for me)
4) Eat healthy - I love fresh fruits and veggies so I'm worried how to eat healthy if I can't have raw foods?!
5) buy my kids a new toy
6) Start a new art project
7) Don't sweat the little things0 -

My goals for this week ... and every week ... and every day ... are to:
1. Not ask "why me?"
2. To enjoy the beauty each day has to offer ... birds singing, leaves turning fall colors ... sunshine, rain, clouds, wind etc.
3. Be thankful for what I have ... and not stew about what might be "missing" in my life
4. To keep repeating over and over "It is what it is" ... and truly believe what I'm saying. I cannot change what IS ... so I must accept it and keep moving forward and not look at the past.

Gee, you don't know how hard
Gee, you don't know how hard this is for me. To actually decide on something. I'll try.
1) Dust the house
2) Run the sweeper
3) Walk the dog
4) Cook something instead of eating out
5) Make a dentist appointment-I've been putting it off
All the things that I tend to put off. My life is not real exciting.
I like walking the dog but some days I'm not able to.0 -

A question about the raw eating. Were you told by your doctor not to? I know some people avoid raw fruits and vegetables during chemo because of the risk of food-borne illness, but many still eat them very carefully. I ate raw fruits throughout my very aggressive chemo, and they did me good. I bought everything organic and then washed them well in an organic vegetable wash. You can either spray each fruit separately with the wash and rinse or put a few drops in a bowl and wash a bunch at once. I never got sick doing this.
You sound very active and healthy. Think of the chemo as cleaning out your system of any pesky cancer cells, like a disinfectant. Then you step in and keep everything clean with your eating and exercise habits. Good luck this week.

I like those goals. Hey, maybe you can get inspired by fall-like recipes, like chili or a pumpkin soup. And make that dentist appointment now before you forget! You reminded me -- I need to make a eyebrow waxing appointment for myself and Simon (he would kill me if he knew I told you this).

Well, speaking of hats, my goal this week is to actually learn some hat-making. I'm working on a how-to guide on my site for women to make/alter clothing for free or cheap to fit their new in-treatment or post-treatment bodies, and hats are definitely part of that. So... maybe after I learn hat-making and convert it to free/cheap hat-making you can stop buying so many? =P
That guide is pretty much my only goal for the week, I'm pretty lazy.
Great idea to share beginning of the week goals, though, and not just end-of-the-week relief. Very motivating. =D0 -

This week is my "good" week before chemo next week, so I have two goals:
- Walk 30 minutes on my lunch hour each day (I haven't had the energy to even leave the office the past two weeks, but started to feel a little stronger over the weekend)
- Eat at least two servings of vegetables and/or fruits each day (I can't look at a vegetable -- raw or cooked -- for about a week after each chemo, so I want to get back to my healthy eating habits this week)
Someone may need to start a 12-step group for VickiSam and me -- I bought two more hats over the weekend! But isn't the first step that I have to *want* to change? :-)
And I must disagree with Pat -- watching Dancing with the Stars is not a goal, it's a necessity!! :-)

I find that interesting that you are making hats. I'm assuming hats with no brims or cloth hats with brims? That'd be really cool. I liked the cloth ones I could throw in the washer when I was on chemo. Now I've got my hair back I still like hats.0 -

Well, I'm not making them yet, heh. We'll see how successful I am at actually producing anything hat-like. So far in the project I've managed to make (for free) tank tops and skirts. It'll be up at CancerVacation.com later this week, I hope.0 -
My goals for this week are...
1. Get out of the house and do something
2. Get some exercise
3. Scrub the kitchen cabinets
5. Write down questions for my simulation appointment on Wednesday
6. Make jewelry if my hands are not stiff and numb!
7. Pick up race t shirts and bibs for team0 -

Just to tempt you two a little more, here is a website that has some beautiful scarves (headwraps). I have actually ordered, let's just say "several", and they are beautiful. I have ordered both the silk and linen. The website is www.4women.com. I'm bad, huh?0 -
Making progress
OK, I DID pick out a nice outfit with boots, cordouroys, and scarf today. I DID make it to my cycling class. I DID have a healthy lunch.
I DID NOT however wake up in time to eat breakfast at home. I will have to try again tomorrow. I also have to do laundry tonight. Desperately.
Thanks for writing down your goals. We can do it!!

What kind of beans are you making? I actually don't soak mine. It just takes a bit longer to cook if you don't soak, and I think they come out just as good. I made a traditional bean chili with kidney beans last night. Really low fat. Just kidney beans, chicken stock, onions, garlic, dried cumin, dried oregano, salt and pepper. Add some tomatoes if you like. Beans are great for you! My nutritionist recommends 1/2 cup of beans, lentils, or peas every day.
PS. Love the pedicure. Have a relaxing time!

Wow - that was great Mimi! That was the image I needed in my mind. As for the raw foods...yes, the dr told me not to eat anything raw when i go out. She then added that if I eat them in my house, I need to be very careful and wash wash wash. So it's manageable? Thank God because I can't imagine going without. My biggest fear is to not be able to exercise. I figure, even if I am exhausted, I should jump in the pool, say hi to everyone, and then go home. Otherwise I'll just stay in the house all day long and that is bad for me. Thanks so much!0
