Hi everyone, wondering if I should be getting concerned, Had my reversal on tues and now it is sat,I have had a few very small bowel movements, no gas. I do have bowel sounds. I am mainly on clears because I vomitted the last 2 times I ate, I did just try some crackers, so I guess time will tell if I keep it down.. Thanks Petrina

    Petrina- like I have posted
Petrina- like I have posted before, I was in the hospital with the reversal for 5-7 days and only due to getting the colon awake and back up to snuff. I was surprised you were only in for half of that time, my Mayo surgeon said 5-7 days was standard on reversals. Although I think the reversal recovery went better than the resection, the colon still needed the exact time to recover. You are now 4 days out from surgery- not sure what you have eaten, but definitely seems like it is too early for solids. Clear liquids for 24 hours after you last vomited. Then add semi-solids, broths, jellos, juice, etc. Walk lots, but otherwise bed rest. Pain pills- and actually I think advil or tordahl works best. Give your colon time to catch up. They are kinda temperamental, rather like to work at their own pace- after they have been manipulated like this, they really rather shut down. Seriously, think in terms of being in the hospital, only you are at home, until at least Tues. It was ONE week before I had a BM and then it was such a small amount- and until then I really really felt like crap. Everything you have said rings true with what I went through, only I was in the hospital! Hang in there- it really does get better.

    sounds are good
    Hi Petrina,
Not sure about reversal but when I was in the hospital last week the nurses kept saying noise is a good thing, that means things are working. Hang in there, moving around helps me......
    take care

    Chew gum.
This seemed to help my husband after his colon cancer surgery. (He had a resection by not an ostomy.) I don't know if it will help you, but it is a pretty benign intervention.

    Bowels Sounds
The BS is good (Bowel Sounds). It takes some time for things to kick in. I went to a party yesterday to see some guys and gals that I have known for 50 years or so (I'm only 52) and we are still in touch. There are a few miles between us but we are all either in NY or NJ. Anyway, one buddy of mine made some excellent turkey chili. My bowels have NOT stopped making sounds since the ride home (with the windows open) last night.
I just thought I'd share, I wish I could send you some Petrina, your bowels would be playing a symphony by now!
