do you know of anyone one living stage 4 adeno carsenoma un operable wanting to know life expectancy its in lung kidney lymph nodes

    My husband has stage IIIB
    My husband has stage IIIB adenocarcinoma and was diagnosed this past March. We were told that both surgery and radiation were not an option. He did show improvement on a CT scan done at the end of July and is scheduled for a bone scan this Monday.

    As far as prognosis, I don't believe in them Please read further from other members here and you will find "many" who have far lived past these wacky doctors diagnosis. Hang in there and keep in touch with your progress. We care!

    This is off-topic, but I'm wondering how your husband is doing with the Tarceva, Michelle? I take a 100mg tab for three days in a row, break for a day, and then start again, and it seems to be keeping the cancer on hold for now with minimal side effects. Did your husband ever experience the extra fatigue from the Tarceva that you were concerned about?

    He took Tarceva 150mg for 31 days. Just had to stop yesterday because a CT scan suggests that interstitial pneumonitis is possible. That's a very rare and deadly side effect of Tarceva. We'll take some time off to see if indeed that's the case. Until this scare he had the famous "rash" which was easily controlled and the famous "bathroom issues". It's hard to say about fatigue because he's been so weak from the pneumonia. I'm praying that the CT scan is incorrect and he can restart the Tarceva soon.

    Does your doc know that your breaking them and skipping a day?

    Oh, I see - you're thinking I'm cutting up the pills :) No, it's my oncologist's prescription - 100mg tablets*, and when I had really bad rashes, it was his suggestion that I try taking them three days on and one day off, to find the max I could tolerate without too much suffering.

    I hadn't heard of this side effect; I hope it's nothing and he can restart. Did his oncologist test him for the EGFR mutation? My understanding is that if one has the mutation, then Tarceva and other targeted drugs are more likely to work for you. As my doc says, though, he's seen Tarceva work for lots of people with and without the mutation (I don't have it), and regardless if they never smoked, are women, and are of Asian descent - the groups who are supposed to be the most receptive to this therapy.

    *I teeter around 80 lbs - a full dose is way more than I was able to withstand.
