First few days after reversal.

I actually didn't start to
I actually didn't start to feel better until a couple of weeks after the take down. My colon needed lots of extra time to wake up and get kicking again. And then when it did, it was confused. Lot of cramps, gas- and I was still dealing with lingering chemo issues, as you are. I was taking pain pills around the clock for over a week, then started to taper off of them.0 -
Glad to see you back!
Hi Petrina! I haven't seen any other posts about your takedown yet, but i've been rogue these last few days. It sounds like it went well?
I felt great the first few days i was in the hospital. I was fine until that first BM. After that, it was very difficult. You probably won't have the same problems i did, especially if you're taking probiotics. I imagine your body will quickly remember how to function since you didn't have the ostomy an extended amount of time. But it will take some time to adjust. They kept me in the hospital a long time because i didn't have an inkling of a BM for several days, so you know my body had forgotten how to function.
Are you still in the hospital?
Hope tomorrow is a better day,

I actually felt great in the hospital, went home next day, felt great and then 2 days leter just misserable. Krista, I haven't started taking the probiotics yet, diarrhea hasn't been a problem, just passing small amts, looks like the ostomy output, no pain with that though.
Vomitted a couple of times, now back on clears, since I didn't tollerate the milkshake I had today. Lots of discomfort, bloating, tenderness and cramping, I am guessing these are all normal since the bowel is trying to learn what to do. I did have my ostomy site left open for a few days to help with preventing infection, had that sewn up today. I am taking both percocet and dilaudid.0 -
It all sounds familiar and Imommyof2kds said:update.

It all sounds familiar and I think pretty common with a take down. In addition, I had a colonoscopy the day before the surgery, so no solids for like 3 days prior to the take down and by the time I was done with surgery was so dehydrated they were pushing IV fluids like crazy. So when that started to work, my bladder was going non-stop. I think going back on liquids is good- and then softs for awhile. Not sure what you have had to eat yet, but it was a week before they would let me have solids- it took that long for my colon to kick back in. Even then it was so uncomfortable- hang in there, use your pain pills, rest when you can- hopefully you will be on the other side of it in the next couple of days. Be prepared though- my colon was confused for the longest time, sending me these urgency feelings, like find a bathroom right now, so I would go racing for one and then, well nothing. 10 mins later the same thing. It really did help to hold off on solids or bulky food- liquids and softs for a long time.0 -

Can't help on the reversal. I didn't need a colostomy originally. "You're up one day, down the next" sounds par for the course for living with cancer though.
I hope it improves daily for you.
Rob
Wishing you well on your recovery.

HI All, surgery was on the
HI All, surgery was on the 22nd, I am having alot of bloating, really bad at times, I had emesis again yesterday. I am not eating much, no appetite. No incontinence, no pain. So, I am doing ok, my GI system is still trying to figure out what is going on. Did anyone else have this bloating and vomitting at this point. I am happy with how things are going, I was prepared for incontinence etc....wondering if you still had pain at the incision site for very long, how long did you need to take the pain pills? Thanks for responding and all your info... Petrina0 -
