New Diagnosis

My husband started having pain in his abdomen the end of July and was diagnosed with almost total obstruction of the right hepatic flexure area of his colon with a "napkin ring" tumor on 9/9. He had surgery 9/15 and they found the tumor was also outside the colon as well and had caused the small intestine to "kink" even through it was not in the small intestine. In addition, they took the whole omentum and found a few enlarged lymph nodes in the area of the tumor. All this we understand, however, they found a ton of "nodules" all over the mesentery. They have taken as many as possible but there are still tons of them. We don't yet have the pathology report, but the surgeon thinks they are malignant. The oncologist just is waiting for the path report. We already know chemo is in his future. Can someone tell me more about what these "nodules" could be and if they are malignant, what is the reality of kicking this? His CT scans have not shown anything in the lungs, liver, etc., but he hasn't had a PET scan yet. Dee

Hi Dee
Hi Dee,
Welcome to the board. I am very sorry you and your husband find yourselves in the midst of this journey. I am not as familiar with the nodules in the mesentery but I am sure someone on the board has experience with this issue.
My thoughts are with you as the docs figure out the course of action for your husband.

Dealing
Welcome to the board. I'm fairly new to it, but not new to the cancer fight. My husband had his first surgery on Sept. 2, 2003. He was stage IV. These early days are really tough. I can't answer your medical questions, but I do encourage you to watch the boards. There's a lot of information and support here. I wish I had found it earlier. Whatever time your husband gets will be a gift from here on out whether it is 2 years or 50. If nothing else, cancer has made us aware of how fragile life can be. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You both will find the strength and the answers you need. Don't be afraid to ask your doctors. Just sit there until you understand what you need to know. Ughhh!
I am so sorry to hear your news. Is it signet cell? Keep watching this board. I have found it to be a wealth of information. There's always someone who can help. Learn as much as you can. Be the best advocate you can be for him and yourself. And if for any reason you have a doctor who is not supportive or willing to explain every option, change doctors. By all means, get a second opinion. You two will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
