Fascinating new (July 2009) study on Serous Ovarian Cancer!

This was posted on the Uterine Cancer Board, and so fascinating that I had to pass along the link to you all to check out, especially those of you with papillary serous ovarian cancer:

The hope in this research lies in the 4-year window where serous ovarian cancer cells lie almost dormant before they start growing and multiplying, a 4-year window between a Stage 1 and Stage 3 diagnosis! This research says that on average, a woman has serous ovarian cancer cells in their bodies 8 years before the cancer is diagnosed. I had no idea! Maybe you all aren't as surprised as I am, but I am REALLY surprised! (I have Uterine Papillary Serous Cancer, which is very similar to Ovarian Serous Cancer in treatment and prognosis.)

    Early stage serous cancer tumor is.. 0.3 CENTIMETERS?!?!!

    I am shocked!!

    I hope that the wonderful people can help make something that will detect the cancer earlier!

    The ovaries ARE small.. but wow.. I wouldn't imagine this!

    Hey Linda, thanks for sharing ~ I heard about this but haven't got on the net and read much yet. It would sure help if women were diagnosed earlier just like with breastcancer as the early detection is what has made a difference there too. Hugs Bonnie

    That was interesting. Also, explains why I did everything right (annual checkups etc.) and still was Stage IV when diagnosed. I am also Papillary Serous adenocarcinoma, according to the first needle biopsy I had.
