Mouth dehydration

Hi. My primary diagnosis is Lung Cancer, but it has now metastasized to my bones and esophagus. It has created a tumor that is completely blocking my esophagus so that I am unable to swallow anything. Due to this, my mouth gets incredibly dehydrated. I suck on ice chips and hard candy, which helps, but I was wondering if anyone else has been through anything like this or has any tips for keeping my mouth hydrated.

Thanks,
ARobben

You're doing exactly what I did when I wasn't allowed to swallow anything after my esophageal surgery. I also found that brushing my teeth more often helped for some reason. I wish you the best!

    hydration
Hello, My husband also has EC....stage iv. First round of chemo really took it's toll on him. Came home from hospital with horrible mouth sores. One of the things they prescribed for him was Caphosol. I notice on the box that it is an artificial saliva. Might help keeping your mouth hydrated. Just a thought.

    Mouth Dryness
My mom uses a mouthwash called Biotene and the same brand toothpaste. She also uses the artificial saliva spray. All can be found at the drugstore. Also, they say liquids with lemon flavor will stimulate the salivary glands. Hope this helps.

P.S. Do you have a peg tube? Since you cannot swallow it may be worth looking at doing. My mom waited too long and suffered for it.
