Hurthle Cell Carcinoma Returns
About a year ago I had a 3.2cm Hurthle Cell Carcinoma taken from my right lobe (thyroid), they then went and took out my left lobe which also had changes. I underwent radioactive iodine treatment. My blood results now show that my TSH is elevated at 2.1 and the doctor says it should be .01. I am about to go for a PET scan as he says this is the only way to tell if it has spread however due to the elevated TSH he believes it has. They have also have discovered that I have nodules on my lungs - multiple.
Has anyone else been there done that and can give me the good/bad news story. I am petrified to say the least

so they removed only part of your thyroid and then went back in
If so, how soon after the first surgery did they do the second? When will you have the pet scan?
Do you have any symptoms? I have 3 small nodules on my lung, but I was told it could be scar tissue and they are very small. I have had a couple of CT scans.0 -

Hi Lola
I did not have my second surgery for 3 months after my first as I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my neck seized up so they had to wait for it to move properly. I am now six months since all surgery and I am having the PET scan. Hopefully I should have the results next week. I can't breath properly currently, it really hurts and I am so so very tired. I guess the other thing is my bloods are wrong.
But hopefully all will be OK0 -

say about the breathing? Does it hurt in your neck/throat when breathing? Rest when ever you need to. It's a shame you had to back through the surgery.
What did you mean when you said your bloods are wrong?
My thoughts and prayers are with you for your Pet scan.0 -
Hurthle Cell Carcinoma
Hi Mellz,
I think I am following in your footsteps. On 8/19, I had a total thyroidectomy and 7 lymph nodes taken out. Lymph nodes were clean. On Thursday, I learned from my surgeon that the pathelogist found an invasion in a blood vessel. Not good news at all. Now, I have to wait 3 months in order to get my Thyrogoblin tested to see if the Hurthle cell cancer is in my blood. My TSH is 7.5, so I have increased my T4 dosage. During my pre-op, I was told I had a 1.6 cm growth on my lung, but it turned out NOT to be one. I hope you will have this same result.0
