Need help please... Surgery or not? Decision needed in a few days.

Hi, I've been reading through the posts and need someone for my father to talk to. He has been diagnosed with stage 3
adenocarcinomas. He just finished up his radiation/ chemo last Wed. He is not getting any nutrition down. Burns when he swallows and is having a lot of bile come up through his coughing. He is going in frequently to get an IV for fluids. He does dot have A feeding tube in either. He is now faced with the decision of surgery. It would be great if he had someone to talk to who has been through it and can answer some fears and questions alike .
I've read about Marshall. Could you put me in contact with Mr Marshall and let me know some the websites that he can look through. He needs to make a decision within the next few days or so. He is not getting any food down and is losing a lot of muscle and weight. He is 60 years young and was in good health prior to this. Any help would me greatly appreciated.

    Thank you. Any words of encouragement would definitely help him out. He is VERY nervous about an operation.

    Surgery

    Hi, welcome to the sight! I am Cathy, 24, and I have underwent the surgery for esophageal cancer, I was stage 3 as well. I have had a reoccurrence, so am once again fighting the battle. But, as for surgery, it went quite well, my entire esophagus and a third of my stomach was removed through an incision in my kneck and one from my breast bone to my belly button. I know the procedure is also done the minimally invasive way at many hospitals, William has much experience with that. I was in the hospital for a week after surgery, and needed a feeding tube for a few weeks throughout my hospital stay and at home. The feeding tube was no problem at all and was easy to take care of. I came through the surgery with flying colors, but there can be complications, and each person is different. I wish you the best with helping your father make a decision. If you have any specific questions I can try to answer, I'd be happy to.

    I am Moe, my husband just went through surgery july 23, he did quite well if you havent read my post please do, But the age you father is I think WILLIAM MARSHALL would be great. I would be glad to post anything you would like to know mine is quite lengthy, and husband had the same surgery kitten0385 did.

    esophagectomy?
    I was diagnosed in early May with stage"0" adenocarcinoma and had a trans-hiatal esophagectomy on May 26. The early detection was brought about by years of heartburn and or acid-reflux resulting in Barret's disease or dysplasia. During the surgery they found a 5mm. early stage cancer in the area of dysplasia(weird pre-cancerous cells). Apparently there was not penetration of the mucosa(thin membrane) of the esophagus by the adenocarcinoma. So I was lucky to have the surgery when I did and also to have one of the best surgeons in the world that does this procedure. Dr. Bisio, Kaiser Sunnyside hospital, Clackamas, Oregon. Six days after my surgery I was able to eat scrambled eggs and a small piece of toast for breakfast! All by virtue of his advanced technique. My advice to your dad is schedule the surgery yesterday! Get it done now don't wait another minute. And most importantly get a surgeon that has done this procedure hundreds of times this will be key in his recovery time. Mike.
