Should we keep our 16 month old daughter out of classes and other group activities this fall/winter to minimize the chances of her bringing a contagious illness home to my wife? She (my wife)just started chemo.

Definately check with your onco
on this one. However, common sense tells us that we can not live in a bubble during our treatments. Exposure is inevitable, and obviously, if there is a flu outbreak in the child's school it would be wise to take extra precautions to isolate her (and your wife) from exposure. But, in general, I doubt that your daughter's usual activities will pose any more of a risk than your wife going to the grocery store, for example.
I would also ask your wife's onco about any precautions she needs to take to prevent exposing the baby to chemicals which will be in your wife's body for a few days after treatment. In some cases we are advised to take precautions in that regard.
