Breast Cancer Book

I have been packing things up and I pulled out a book that the breast care specialist gave me at my 1st visit. I forgot what a good book it was and is. It's called I Flunked My Mammogram by Dr Bodai. It answers so many of those 1st questions and has a good section on common breast cancer drug, common anti nausea meds, a good glossary of terms. It also has a area at the end of most of the chapters to write notes. In one section it is titled "My Notes, Questions to ask my Doctor (To be answered DURING my appointment) I loved that. It covers so many of questions that are asked by everyone when they first come on here. Oncotype tests, chemo, rads, just a lot of information and related very simply and to the point. I would recommend it highly. It's one of those things that I read and used at the beginning of all this in October and November and then set aside and didn't think about until I saw it again today.

    thanks for the reconmendation Stef. We have a whole bunch of baby sisters here who i am sure will appreciate it also. Even though I am done with treatment I plan on getting the book just for gp, on top of which you never know when you might come to a place where you need to pass on such a book unforunately

    The 3rd printing which is the one I have is available at curebreastcancer.org. There is another printing available from Amazon. Not sure if it is in book stores or not since mine came from my medical team.

    Thanks Stef for posting about this book. I will have to get it. I really like it when bc survivors recommend books for us to read. We need to do this more often.

    Since I'll be doing alot more reading in the near future, I sure appreciate the referrals on good books! Today I just received Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book that was also passed around on here. It's sooo much thicker than it looked! That should keep me busy for awhile. It helps so much to be informed on this whole process. I'm learning a whole new language.

    It will probably be a month
    It will probably be a month before we make the move, but we are going through 33 plus years of accumulated stuff. I am being very ruthless and getting rid of tons of stuff. The garage and side yard is the most challenging and hubby is tackling that. If I go back to work, it will be somewhere up in the Sacramento area. I won't do serious job searching until we are settled. Thanks for asking.

    Another good book is Living Through Breast Cancer by Caolyn Kaelin.

    I also sent off for Dreamwalk by Rachael Clearwater. If you go to her website, and, you are a bc survivor, you only pay like $2 or something for the postage. I am not for sure I really like her book. It started slow for me, so, I put it down and haven't finished it.

    And, I got Breast Cancer Husband by Marc Silver for my husband. I am so proud of him. He is actually reading it and asking a lot of questions. :) ( good questions too haha )

    another good book
    I just received "Hope in the Face of Cancer" from a friend who just got a 2nd year good report after having stomach and esophagal (sp???) cancer. It's by Amy Givler, MD and survivor. Very readable but also good info. Adds in scripture and faith stories also.

    I imagine in 33 years, you do accumlate a lot! Just wishing you good luck with your move. Look at it as an adventure!

    A great follow-up book
    I've just discovered "After Breast Cancer - A Common-Sense Guide to Life after Treatment" by Hester H Schnipper. She's a bc survivor, a social worker who counsels women with cancer and leads support groups, and her husband is an oncologist - lots of solid background there! I read the whole thing, and have marked places to re-read; it's definitely helped my "what happens next? I'm feeling deserted" feelings. Even though like all of you, I have many follow-up appointments and tests, etc., that panic creeps in at times.
