Hi Sherry
I am really sorry to hear about your friend. It is really hard to watch someone you care about go thru such an ordeal.
If there is nothing more that can be done for her, would she consider a hospice referral? Hospice nurses number 1 will get her pain under control. There is no reason that she has to be uncomfortable. There are lots of meds out there that can be given in many different ways that wont sedate her too much. There are also a ton of benefits under hospice I believe such as medical equipment, aide help for personal care, respite care for families, counseling by social workers and clergy. If she would agree she could get a hospice rn to come and discuss the benefit to her. She just needs to discuss it with her doctor and he needs to make the referral. It may not be the easiest discussion to have, but it will give her valuable information.
I will be thinking of you both
Hugs

It breaks my heart about the news of your friend. I also hope she avails herself of hospice care; the pain can indeed be lessened, and she can end her days in relative peace surrounded by a caring, loving group of hospice caregivers. They are a special g roup of angels, to be sure.
Thank you for being such a good friend to her; you have been a blessing to her.
Hugs,
