and all went well. The drugs they gave me in my IV must be working good because so far no side effects. Sitting here and waiting to see which ones I am going to get is no picnic though. When do they start? They told me to start taking my anti-naisea pill tonight just to be on the safe side because getting sick is the thing I'm most afraid of. Well, the pain that comes with the Neulasta shot isn't thrilling me either. I get that tomorrow morning.

But right now all I am having are some hot flashes and red pee from the Adriamycin. I am drinking lots of water and ate some soup when I got home to keep my belly full while I felt like eating.

Hope you all have a good night tonight and I'll keep you updated.

Love and Light,
Vicki

    Hi Vicki: Don't sit waiting
Hi Vicki: Don't sit waiting for the symptoms, go and do your normal things while you feel up to it. I've been off the boards for a while so I'm not sure how many rounds you will have, but, I was ok for the first 2 and I had cytoxan, adriamycin and 5FU. I went through 8 rounds and I can tell you the last 2 were the absolute worst. It starts to build up in your system, so make sure that you take your anti-nausea medicine before you go for your chemo and keep taking it for a few days after also. Eat small meals more frequently and always light foods, nothing heavy, no spices, etc., drink lots of water, and I really mean lots. I was drinking a gallon a day to flush out the chemicals. I went through mash potatoes like you wouldn't believe because it was all my stomach could tolerate. I also had some ensure shakes which my husband added a little bit of vanilla ice cream and some ice to make a smoothie because I wasn't crazy about the taste. Before you know it you will be done too. Just keep posting any questions you may have. Hugs, Lili

    1st down - great
    Vicki,

I am glad the first chemo went smoothly. I just finished the Neulasta pain and I think mine lasted longer than normal. Legs were three days, then back and then hips and lower back - total six days. However, don't wait for the bone issues to get bad, then it is too late sometimes. If you start to feel the moaning in your bones, go for the Motrin (or Clariton or whatever) if you have it around. Don't say I will take it if it gets worse. I described it as my body was one giant toothache. It may have you laying around a lot, but just take it easy, breathe, relax and keep in mind it goes away. Overall it was an annoyance, but it has been seven days since my first chemo. and I feel pretty much normal. Also remember, I hear the first Neulasta shot is the worst in terms of bone issues, but really for me it was tolerable.

Go out, enjoy the rest of the day and hopefully it is an easy ride this first time.

    Take care!

    Vicki:
The first treatment is the scariest-- you just don't know what to expect. Plan to lay low for the next several days and keep drinking the water. Most of us have some fatigue and aches and pains. In a few days you will be feeling more normal. Hang in there and rest! Jane

I'm so glad that you made it through the first treatment . I also had Adiamycin/Cytoxcin. 4 rounds. I agree with Lili. Drink lots of water. Just do what your body tells you. If your tired make sure you sleep. I found that the first couple of nights after treatment I had a hard time sleeping. The Neulasta shots only made me ache a little. I did find that my second treatment hit me the worst. I just was so tired that I think I slept for 2 days. You will do fine . I'm sure of it!! Hugs, Diane:)

    Hi Vicki
I never had any aches or pains with the neulasta at all so dont think everyone has that as a side effect.

AS far as the ac goes, I felt like I had morning sickness all day 2 days after chemo and felt tired most of the week after but then by week 2 I was feeling much better.

Hang in there and drink lots of liquids

    Hugs

Was wondering how you were doing
Glad to hear you're doing fine. I have also only had one chemo treatment so far, next one next Thursday, and I didn't have much in the way of side effects. My cocktail is different from yours, taxotere and cytoxin, but was very tolerable. I also took the Neulasta shot the next day and really only had some back pain around 3 days after. That too was tolerable. I'm wishing you no side effects and just rest and drink plenty of water. Take care!!

    One under your belt
    Vicky,

It's great that you have one under your belt. You'll fall into a routine now and the rest won't be as scary. As far as side effects go, it varies. Some people have the same ones at the same time, everytime. Mine were always a bit different. The first time, I didn't have any side effects until day 5 or so. But one thing that was always the same is that I always, always recovered. This is true of most people. By the second week, I was feeling good, and was doing great by the third week. I worked full time throughout chemo. Treat yourself like a baby through this, drink lots of water, eat well, rest, and do some relaxing things like taking in your favorite movies or TV show. Plan something fun for when treatment is over; it'll give you something to look forward to. Good luck! We're here for you.

    chemo
I started yesterday neulasta today. I had a decent night and day, lots of burping, only like certain foods, but feel pretty good for being on chemo. knock on wood. I got up in the middle og the night to go to the bathroom and legs were a little wobbly, and sl nauseated.i remembered that someone posted( sorry I will start to remember names) it being like pregnancy. I never had bad morningsickness but remembered that people ate crackers before getting up, and I ate a couple crackers and felt pretty good. I was pretty much eating nothing before this but the decadron is making me want to eat so may appetitie is starting to improve.the fluid is a challange. Anyone with suggestions on tasy fluids if you get tired of water? Ayway wishing you all the best.

Sorry it was Linda T who mentioned the morningsickness. My antinausea pills were all by mouth just prior to chemo and I get it every two weeks for four cycles. then 12 weeks of taxol or taxere.

    Chemo treatment
Vicki .. I met with my onc and staff on Friday .. my chemo starts on 9/8. onc nurse, Barbara told me .. to drink 3 liters of water the day before, day of chemo & day of chemo.

I also received a listing of side affects. I don't want to look at them, cuz I am afraid I might get too overwhelmed.

The neulusta shot pain .. piece of cake .. You've endured the port, waiting on treatment approval .. YOU CAN DO it.!! I will be giving myself neulasta shots as I have endured many many Invitro's .. IVF's trying to conceive a 2nd child.

I am sure I will also be experiencing 'hot flashes' .. hot and humid here in California. Lord, Help me!

Love, Light and prayers to you!
