Mine was a referral...
From my handsome gastric surgeon...I kept telling him how gorgeous he was...
Actually, my breast surgeon was head of the oncology surgery area...so, he was a bit middle-aged, up to snuff on all the latest...but was still surprised by my lymph node involvement "you just didn't present that way, Kathi" he said after finding both sentinel nodes positive for cancer...
I trusted all of my surgeons...listen to your feelings...it will come to you...

I would go with whichever one I felt most comfortable with. Who cares if they are young or old. They are treating you for bc and you want someone that makes you feel like they will cure you. Good luck!

MCJ, All of the decision
MCJ, All of the decision that we have to make are sometimes over whelming.. I agree with going with the one that you feel the most comfortable with, who you think is listening to your concerns and answering your questions in a way that is compasionate and understandable... and sometimes cute doesn't hurt... you will pick the right one for you, I'm sure!

If it were up to me, I would
If it were up to me, I would choose the qualities of Dr House, Dr Welby, Dr Kildare, I can't say McDreamy never having watched Greys Anatomy, Dr Seuss, Dr Who, Ben Casey, and Dr Dolittle just for good measure. The only one I am sure I don't need is Dr Spock, though come to think of it, I have been known to be a baby now and then.
My surgeon was a woman~ a breast surgery specialist, and known as an "artist" by her peers.
I asked my GP ( also a woman) who she would recommend, she gave me two recommendations, I met with them both, and chose the woman. She was , and is, smart, to the point and yet compassionate.
As all have said, go with who YOU feel comfortable and safe with...

To me if m surgeons are both well qualified I go for the best fit. I once had a general surgeon who stared at my shoes the whole time he talked to me. Trust me they were just black nondescript clogs! I thought if this guy cant look me in the eye how do i trust him to advocate for me while i am under anesthesia. Needless to say he went off my list! It is important for me to have a surgeon who listens to my concerns, respects my choices, and of course is a good surgeon. That is not age specific. My surgeon was in between age, a highly respected woman.I had a great surgical outcome, except for some seroma which was not her fault. I also went into the surgery with a sense of peace that I was in good hands. Best of luck in your decision making!0 -

Whichever one makes you feel comfortable, safe and taken care of, is the one you should try first. I say first because several change oncologist's for one reason or another. So, you are not stuck with anyone. I don't care if they are young, old, cute, or ugly. I just want the best oncologist around who treats me like I am his only bc patient and gives me the best treatment plan to rid me of cancer.
