Hair Dye
I know this topic has been disccused before, but I'm just wondering has anyone dared to use normal hair colour products like clarol etc, instead of vegetable dyes.
I tried using vegetable dye and my white hair is still showing help!
Also just curious what do you use for hair removal products, I find my skin is extra sensitive if I use products like nair etc, so I get it waxed.
Any advice would be appreciated
Hugs Sonia

Hi Sonia
I was told not to dye my hair during chemo. My RN said to avoid elastics, wash gently, and to be gentle to avoid extra hair loss. I've still not colored my hair and think it looks awful. My final tx was just 10 days ago, tho. If you can afford it, going to the hair dresser and having her use the foil would keep the chemicals off your scalp. You could instruct her to be gentle, too. I can't afford that. (
About the hair removal products, I was also told to either use an electric razor or not shave my legs because of the risk of cuts and infection. That was NOT an option (and I'm not a hairy person). I shaved less frequently and was very careful.
My skin is much more sensitive now. It was already changing due to menopause, so I'm not sure if chemo affected it, too.
Sorry I couldn't be of any help.0 -

I have colored my hair 3 times during chemo. I experienced some thinning when I first began chemo, but not real bad. I just couldn't stand it and so I would color it the day before the chemo treatment. I would venture to say that everybody is different, so it is probably a gamble, but I've always said "no guts, no glory." I used Loving Care by Clairol twice and Loreal Excellance once.
If you decide to try it, good luck.

hair dye
HI Sonia, when I knew I was going to loose my hair and I didn't have thinning, I dyed my hair. I did it a few times at home and had no problems.. I use a razor to shave, haven't had any problems with that either. Hope this helps. Petrina0 -
Hair Dye
One of the first things I asked my onc after everything was explained to me, was if I could color my hair. I was told go right ahead, and I was never told I couldn't shave my legs. That was a good thing, being that I'm quite hairy! LOL On chemo I didn't have to shave as often because of the thinning of my hair.
When I did color, I always colored on my off weeks, only because I felt better then. One thing I did notice was that my hair grabbed the color much faster. I didn't want to feel awful on chemo plus look awful too!
What I don't understand is if the Nair is too strong and irratates your skin, how can you wax and not have that be irratating??0 -
Coloring
I just had my hair colored by an Aveda Salon. They are supposed to be 98% natural and the colored turned out really good. Next time I will color my own hair from Loreal Preference because the Aveda Salon is just too expensive to have done every hair coloring. I didn't have anymore thinning than I usually did. Good luck!

They offered a $40.00 coupon toward cut & color. I have not gone yet but do want to. I have been using Clairol and it works well (no ammonia and no peroxide). It washes out w/in 12 washes so it has to be done often. I liked the results.0
