Blood Clots in lungs from surgery
Many questions, but first is the blood clots in both lungs from surgery. I am new to this discussion board and just had good results of 1st cat scan. I had complete Hysterectomy and lymph nodes eight months ago which put my into full menopause etc. I have been on warfarin for 8 months and the last reading was very high last week. Doc told me my good news of cats scan and told my to stop taking warfarin. In addition, I have been having bouts of uncontrolled crying spells and feeling a little depressed and like many of you, hard to sleep. I am on a sleeping aid called trazodone. Pretty much going through this whole cancer ordeal alone. So any input on blood clots and if any of you had them. How do I know if they r gone and have any of you suffered bouts of depression.

Pulmonary Embolisms
When did you have your hysterectomy, and when did you have the blood clots? I had blood clots before I had my hysterectomy, and found they can be a symptom of lower body cancer (I had a lot in my right leg).
Is your doctor discontinuing the warfarin temporarily? I've been told I should continue it all my life. I have a Greenfield filter now, which is supposed to collect clots that might break loose, but to keep it clear, I need the warfarin...
I'm sorry you're having the depression, but I really think it goes with the territory of having cancer. You might want to see if you can get at least a mild antidepressant.
I've found that Benadryl helps me fall asleep at night. Your doctor could tell you if that would be something you could use, too. Some of the sleeping aids can be a little scary to me!
You should call the closest American Cancer Society office and see if they can refer you to a support group. I've found my group invaluable.

I had surgery 8 months ago ...they did a full hysterectomy and appendix and lymph nodes. They told me that I had blood clots in both lungs and I had transfusions and was put on warfarin blood thinners now for 8 months. The doctor told me that the body secretes them after a certain amount of time. I stopped them last wednesday when he said that my scan came back normal. I am still scared because how do I know there gone. I have been feeling light headed since I stopped.0 -

Lisa Jean,
I got blood clots in both lungs while I was having Chemo....they put me on Fragmin...it is a shot that goes in my stomach for 6 months....I finished that Jan 2009 and then my Dr. said to take a baby aspirin everyday from now on. I also had a filter put in and then removed after 6 weeks.( My request)
I know how hard it is not to worry...I did for about 2 months after...now I realize I just need to get on with my life....what will be will be.

No clots for me
I had no clots but was put on Warfarin when I got my port and continued ever since. My lungs did fine during the surgery and I did wear the leg things that blow up ever so often while in the hospital.
It is important that you get a restful sleep so I hope you consult with your doctor about the depressed feeling and lack of sleep. As far as I am concerned, the suffering from the cancer is enough and we don't need the additional depression. Saundra0
