It's ObviousPGLGreg said:How much?
I looked around a bit and found that salinomycin, the cancer stem cell killer, is widely used in chicken feed. If it comes to be used in the treatment of human cancer, I can't help wondering how much patients will be charged for it.

It will be Chicken feed (small amount of money).
We just have to cross the 8 lane highway to get it.0 -

nobody is going to fund a trial to bring this to market. When people get wind of this, soon you won't even be able to get it for your chickens.0 -

Nice to read about but don't see it ever happening here, not with the way capitalism runs the US medical industry. First, the horrid words "stem cells" are used which will lead to the hate and fear mongers on FOX news to yell murdered babies have to be involved and their devoted followers will all SCREAM very loudly scare, scare, run, run. Invoking fear is their only response to anything advantageous for Americans but has been so successful in the last 8-10 or so years, why would they stop?
AND where's the money in an effective way to combat cancer? Vaccines yes but no prevention or cure is acceptable for the corporate greed. Let's see I'm guessing this could be studies all funded by the "death panel democrats" and are all lies and will just kill old people and raise taxes.
I'm with John, not happening unless another country does it that isn't run by the insurance and pharmaceutical companies. I'm hoping there are 1 or 2 out there.

Lisa P.:
I agree with you about the audacious greed of the corporate pharmaceutical interests and the power of personal political interests---powerful entities that sometimes appear to impede rather than promote research that might well lead to cures for awful diseases like colon cancer.
For me, however, the question is whether to be cynical and give up or naive and put my head in the sand and believe that human altruism will prevail over greed and ideology. Either of those positions, I fear, lets the status quo win. I've come to the conclusion that my place is somewhere in between--a middle way, to borrow a phrase from the Dalai Lama.
That said, I find it hopeful that this research has been done by a pretty prestigious institution, MIT. I find it hopeful that the news of the research has been broadly publicized. And, like you, I am hopeful that somewhere there is a research facility willing and financially able to let the research take them where it will, regardless of the financial implications for those who currently have the money and the power.
My two cents.

You said it with FOX News (I use the term NEWS very loosely). Why use stem cells to HELP people when you can just flush them down the toilet like they do now.0
