ALUM
Yes I would call your doctor as well Laura. Now that said we started using Alum (it is a pickling spice) way back in 1974 when my mom had cancer and her oncologist suggested it. We now all keep it in our medicine cabinets. It works well as a rinse just put a bit in a cup and swish it in your mouth for a bit then spit it out. It does not taste good but it dries out the sores and gives relief pretty quickly. I hope you feel better soon.

Your oncologist can prescribe you a mouth wash that some call "swish and swallow". Please call you oncologist and like RE said describe your syptoms and then they will know what to prescribe for you.

I don't know what it is. Sorry. But, you probably should call your doctor. He will help you out.

Nystatin is an antifungal
Nystatin is an antifungal prescription mouthwash that worked immediately on me. Let them know and they'll look after you unless you have some Alum on hand. I've never heard of it but if RE says it works......then I'd try it.0 -

Tell your oncologist. It is a common side effect. I used troches that you dissolve in your mouth 5 times a day and also "Magic Mouthwash" that has lidocaine in it..you can even swallow it if your throat is sore with it.0 -
Hi lolad
Call your md and see if they would order some nystatin swish and swallow and once the thrush has cleared up then beef up the oral hygiene to brushing about 2 to 3 times per day and rinse your mouth about 3 times per day with a mixture of 1/4 tsp baking soda and 1/2 tsp salt in about 1 cup of water.
This has really helped me alot. I was starting to get sores in the mouth and I just do this 2 to 3 times per day and I didnt have any sores after last chemo
Hang in there
