After taking 31 weeks to finish 15 weeks of adria/cyclo and then 15 weeks of Taxol, have started radiation and it seems like a breeze. Have had 8 of 35 treatments. But after reading some of your comments, think maybe I'm a little too cockey! My problem is I have allergies and need suggestions for a cream or lotion that doesn't include petroleum products in their ingredient list. First day of treatment, I tried Lubriderm and started itching and broke out in a rash. They told me not to use anything for a while but after reading Pammy's page, I really don't want to turn into one of Fauxma's french fries or worse yet deep fat fried crispy critter. Any ideas???

    Hi,
    I know some people use

    Hi,
I know some people use pure aloe and a friend of mine used Aveeno for sensitive skin(just check with doc first). I am not sure all the ingredients though. At first I did feel like I was putting on cream for nothing but I did get red eventually. No major issues though. GOod Luck

    Carol......
Ask your rad onc for some Biafine Cream. They should have samples to give you, but if not, ask for a prescription for it.

    Carol, only use what your
Carol, only use what your radiation oncologist recommends. What did he say?

I used Biafine for the burn and Aquaphor at night to keep my skin greasy and soft.

But, always check with your rads oncologist, they all seem to vary.

And, start using something now. After my lil burn went away, my skin is like baby's skin :)

    Good luck.

    Lotion or cream for radiation
    Hi,

It's important to start right away with whatever your rad onco or nurse tells you. The radiation is cumulative, and you could have damage before you realize it. I used an aloe vera gel which the rad onco recommended; make sure it doesn't have alcohol, fragrance or dye in it. Not to put in a plug for any business, I found this at Walgreen's, in the sunscreen section. It was a little sticky going on, but dried quickly. Good luck!

As many others have already posted here...
Please don't use anything without your rad onc's specific approval! After your experienced a rash from the Lubriderm - your doctor might want your skin to recover from it before you use something else?

Always remember that no matter what you may read here on the board - all information doesn't apply to everyone. Follow your own doctor's orders. Radiation dosages vary - as does the equipment itself.

    ONLY use what your radiation
ONLY use what your radiation oncologist says. It is nice to hear what others used, but, they may not work so well for you. So, don't take any chances. See what your doctor says and use that ONLY.

    My rads oncologist gave me
My rads oncologist gave me Biafine and Aquaphor.

Biafine was for the small burn I got and Aquaphor was just to keep my skin moist and in good condition.

I also used hydrocortisone when I got radiation dermatitis.

    Hope this helps you.

But, only use what your radiation oncologist says to use, not just what someone else says. Be sure and ok everything thru him.

    as others have said
As the others have said ... be sure to check with your radiation oncologist before you use anything.

With that said ... my radiation crew suggested I use Biofine during the day and Eucerin DREAM (in a jar ... NOT the lotion!)at night ... but I still developed peeling ... especially under my arm. The Eucerin was a blobby it was hard to even wash off my hands after I applied it to the boob area. I asked the radiation oncologist if I could try aloe and he said I could. I've always been an "aloe believer" ... for burns and itches etc. ... so that's what I used. As someone else said ... be sure it is the "pure" (99% or whatever) aloe ... and NOT a lotion "with" aloe. The stuff I used is a clear "gel" kind of stuff either in a bottle or tube ... but it works great. I used it 2-3 times a day. I finished my radiation treatments last week but I'm still using the aloe and will until things start to look "normal." If your radiation doc says you can use it ... I'd say start right now ... before you start turning pink then red and very tender.

On other thing I found that helped was baby foaming bath wash (Johnson & Johnson I think). It's in a squirt bottle and feels great in the shower since it goes on the boob area so smooth.

Anyway ... check with your radiation doc BEFORE you use anything!

    hugs ... and good luck.
