Thank you from Teena ... last day of RADS!
And ... I do have to tell you how my last day went. (and I apologize because I will probably ramble on and on and on .. )
Anyway ... my radiation center always has jars and dishes of candy around ... so I took several bags of candy for all of those wonderful people who have treated me for 6 weeks as though I was their only patient. It put a smile on their faces. Then after my treatment and after I sat up on the table the nurse asked me if I was familiar with the Mardi Gras custom ... when people yell at women to "show me your t_ts" and then throw the girls Mardi Gras beads. I told her I was familiar with the custom because I lived outside of New Orleans for 15 years and miss it and Mardi Gras ... very much. The nurse then put 3 strings of Mardi Gras bead around my neck. They'd been looking at my t_ts for 6 weeks ... so I guess I really earned those beads! I almost cried. My last treatment ... and Mardi Gras beads as a "graduation present." Perfect! So ... with my lovely hospital gown on ... and my beautiful Mardi Gras beads I walked down the hall with the nurse and "rang the bell." Don't know if this is a custom a other centers ... but everyone gets to ring the bell after their final treatment. I knew the "bell" was going indicate I had graduated ... but I almost cried when I got the Mardi Gras beads.
Well ... I just had to share that with all of you ... and now I think I'll go put some more aloe on my boobs and hope they start healing up soon. As far as steaks and boobs go ... I am well done!
Thanks again for remembering me on my big day! There's several others right behind me ... all ready to graduate ... and my congratulations go out to all of them!
big hugs,
teena

Oh no! I was almost picturing you starring in the next verson of Girls Gone Wild after hearing about the Mardi Gras beads! Wow...my radiation center, though peaceable and tastefully decorated, only had popcorn on Fridays, and a certificate of completion! You obviously travel first class, Teena!

That's wonderful Teena. Over is such a good word lately. Congrats
What a special end for a special gal. Bell ringing and beads, how wonderful. Keep up with the lotion and I hope you don't burn too much more. I didn't have too bad a time after the treatment ended but I know some have. So slather, slather, slather on the goop.

So....do we get a picture?
Ok, guess I'll just have to keep the one in my head! Are you sure if I google you on "you tube" nothing will come up? Congrats on your last day! I hope you are still wearing your beads and doing your happy dance! Ummm....could you dance just a tad more to the left of the doorway (that's where I hid the camera!)?
Wow, now I wonder what my center does, if anything. Let's see, we do not have ANY popcorn. My last three visits there was a huge candy jar on the ledge. So today I decided I wanted a couple pieces of tootie rolls (yes, I checked the jar out first day I saw it and knew everything inside) but it was gone! Maybe they caught me scoping it out! Also, in 3 weeks time, I have not heard any bells ringing or yeeha's or any sound eminating from the hallways. Wow, I hope they do SOMETHING or I will feel really left out!! Then it will cost hubby a fortune to make me feel better.

Even if they do something you still need to have hubby come through with something. It's good retail therapy. My place only had a candy jar with tootsie rolls too. And those red and white mints. Did get a certificate at the end?
I have a scathingly brillant idea (tribute to Claudia and The Trouble with Angels). ON the last day, bring your own beads and give them all a final flash. See if they get the connection. After all they've been looking at them for weeks, might as well give them a laugh. I didn't do anything this time with rads but when I had pelvic rads I did draw a large shamrock on my abdomen (above my rad field) on St. Patrick's Day. Gave them a laugh. I wanted to put stickers on my breast the last day. I wanted to find ones that said Closed for Construction or something but I didn't.

A Mardi Gras celebration for rads done!
Thanks for sharing the details of your final treatment, teena. Wow, sounds like a fun bunch!
I got a standing ovation from the entire department. They were all there when I came out of the dressing room after final treatment. And a framed "graduation" certificate - signed by all. Which was nice. But, since I'm a jewelry freak - would've much preferred the colorful beads. :-)
Kind regards, Susan0 -

That sounds great Teena! They had a big party for me when I finished. I got the usual certificate, but, we had cake, cookies, punch, everything and everyone got to enjoy it! One of the rad tech's even baked the cake for me. I loved those people!
Congrats!0 -

Beads and Bells for Teena!
That was really nice of you to bring candy, Teena. I think I will do that next Wednesday. Thank you for sharing your last day with us. I had never heard of the Mardi Gras beads for showing your boobies. How appropriate and touching. You wear them proudly. And keep using the lotions, like they've all told us to do.0 -

Steff is right, Pammy. Even if you get bells and whistles on your last rad day, you still need to BUY something. Just get to thinking about what you want. I know you can come up with something....0 -
