I have had 2 surgeries in one week, and feeling O.K. The lumpectomy/sentinel lymph node bx was pretty much a breeze, with little pain, but fatigue. The first 2 nodes were positive, and then this Tuesday went back for a complete lymph node dissection. Ouch.... This drain reminds me of a hockey puck! I only have 1 drain, but uncomfortable..pain meds help. Doctor called tonight again, and 13 of the 15 lymph nodes were negative. ( first good news since all of this began) Probably drain out next week...and then oncologist.

My question is this, with IDC, 2.7 cm tumor (removed with 2 positive nodes), do you guys think I will have to do chemo along with rads?? I know this has probably been addressed before, but refresh my memory please....

Thank-you all again for all the input.....

I would say yes. They will
I would say yes. They will do the chemo first, then rads. But, I am not your doctor.

    Good luck Angel!

    I had a 2.2 tumor with 1 out
I had a 2.2 tumor with 1 out of 17 positive. I have 8 chemo treatments and then radiation. I don't know how many rad treatments.

My chemo begins on 8-13. I am very nervous.

    Hey Angel
Glad you made it through everything. That is one hurdle behind you now. I would almost have to say if you are following the norm, then yes, you will probably have to do chemo mainly due to the positive nodes. Better to prepare yourself now. Then if they tell you no chemo, you will feel as if you were just handed a present. But I think you will go through it. Keep us posted. :(-) Pammy

I had one out of 16 positive
I had one out of 16 positive and my oncologist wanted me to do chemo. He had said before the biopsy if it was in my lymph nodes I would have to have chemo. I have had three treatments and have been doing okay with them. I am glad I am getting it because I didn't want to take any chances!! I want that stuff gone!! Good luck!!

    Sorry for your discomfort...
Glad the pain meds are helping. Wishing you speedy recovery from your surgeries.

To specifically address your question - yes. When lymph nodes are found to be cancerous, chemo almost always follows. Chemotherapy is systemic - works all throughout the system, meant to rid the body of any remaining stray cancer cells. Although it can be difficult, everybody reacts differently. It IS doable. And, we'll be here for you.

    Keep us posted.

    Hi angel
I had only the sentinel node positive with 0 out of 21 nodes positive. I had bilateral mastectomy and am on chemo. I will have round 4 of 8 next friday.

Prepare yourself for it so if it turns out you dont need it it will be a gift...I am not liking the chemo at all cuz it makes me so tired and messes with my appetite... but I am still managing to work about 20 to 24 hours per week.

Let us know how things come out

That is amazing that you can
That is amazing that you can still work Linda on chemo. I so admire bc survivors like you that do that! Such strong women!

    With positive lymph nodes,
With positive lymph nodes, you always have chemo.

But, look at all of the ones that have done it and they will help you get thru it!
