My surgeon said that she will remove mine...it will be the end of the year...with a local, and I thought of you. Should I run the other way??

Port removal
Hi CR,
Yes, I did get the port removed last Wednesday. I think, in general, it is worth it to get it done with a local if only to avoid the effects of general anesthesia. The only unpleasant parts were the initial injections to numb the area. I won't lie. They hurt. But once that was over, I felt nothing as the port was removed except for a weird pressure and pulling feeling -- no pain. The whole thing took about half an hour. Took off the bandages the next day, but I'll keep the steri-strips on for two weeks or so. All in all, I think it's good to get it done in the doctor's office with a local. No grogginess or other anesthesia effects. I got up and was good to go -- no recovery time. Just brace yourself for those injections. You'll be fine!

Thanks, Pammy. In that particular picture, I was having a very nice drink at a restaurant before seeing a great production of "King Lear." I was pretty happy!0 -
Thanks Mimi.........
And i agree with Pammy! Love your picture!
The only thing I worry about frankly, is that I'm squeamish. I can tolerate pain and that dorsn't scare me so much...but the "ick" part of it. I hate knowing what's going on...lol!
But, I will do it when the time comes, just as with everything else. I actually will enjoy having it gone!

Glad you got your port out Mimi.
And, I love that picture of you too. Is it recent? If so, your hair really grew fast, from the other pic you had. You were very lucky. Very pretty!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Cindy
I had my port out at my surgeon's office last spring. I hardly remember the procedure...I think I used my leftover EMLA cream on the area and my surgeon prescribed some Valium to take an hour before the procedure. Once the Valium hit, I felt great! (in the midst of depression, no less). I remember telling the surgeon that I wished I could always feel that good. She laughed at me and told me that Valium was not a good long-term idea. I don't remember any pain during the procedure - just the tugging. Because of the Valium I was unable to drive, and there was some pain that evening that extra-strength Tylenol put to rest. I visited my surgeon 10 days later for a check-up and after that I was good to go.0 -

It took me forever to get the refresh to work and to see this lovely picture of our beautiful MiMi. It was worth the wait. Such a great picture. You are adorable.

That's very reassuring/ I think when the time comes, I will ask for Valium..or something!..also.
