Day 12 of Pammy's Rads

Woohoo...1/3 of the way done!! I have just realized that I have made it one third of the way through Rads today. So far it has been pretty easy. I am starting to tire easily all the sudden, my nipple is a wee tiny bit sore, my chest wall is a little sore, and I sting just a tad. Nothing that really requires too much concern or any treatment. Other than the daily inconvienence, I seem to have sailed through this part of Rads.
Today I even got a laugh when I got to ride the elevator to the basement with an older gentleman that was shorter than me! Very kind, but definitly shorter. Oh no....I hope radiation doesn't shrink you!!! Sorta like "shrinky dinks". Remember the stuff you colored, then baked in your oven, and it would shrink, and you would make keychains and stuff out of the finished product? They probably took it off the market because it gave us obnoxious fumes that probably caused cancer!! And they don't know how we get it....right.
All in all, servived another day of zapping!! :(-) Pammy

    A 1/3 of the way thru, congratulations and still making us laugh - the short guy I mean.
    Don't let the side effects get too bad before you ask for help. I do remember the shrinky dinks, very scary stuff.

    Thanks for the advice, Judi, I will definitly keep it in mind! I do know from what I have read that airing out that area will help to heal it. I thought if it happens to me.....I will just duct tape my boobie up and out of the way!! Ok, maybe I'll ask for some surgical tape. Probably safer that way!! Sorta like an instant boobie lift.
    And yes, I will be having 8 boosters at the end. They are making me pretty nervous. I have heard that is when most people burn, etc. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

    Ask them about using Zeasorb. It is a very good powder and was recommended to me after I completed pelvic radiation treatment. I had the same problems with rash, raw spots in the gluteal fold. They told me to shower or bath gently washing the area, then to gently pat the area dry, or use a blow dryer (lowest heat and not holding it too close) and then to powder the area liberally. I would suggest laying down and raising your breast and then powder away. Zeasorb is more absorbent than other powders and has no starch. It worked very well at keeping the area dry and soon cleared up. Just be sure to run this by your doctor before doing this. The areas where skin touches skin are very susceptable to rashes, sores, burning etc. I am so sorry that they did not watch that more. I had very little burning but they checked me completely each week. Hope this helps and that this clears up for you. My breast area had little trouble and all I have now is a tanned area under my armpits. It looks just like a big heart. Somehow that comforts me.
