palate cancer

has anyone been diagnosed with palate cancer? I am newly diagnosed and know nothing about the procedures? how is surgery? does it always require chemo or radation? anyone with any info or help would be greatly appreciated!

    I think you need to know what type of cancer -- it seems like you know the location but not the specific. Depending on the specific type it may or may not need radiation/chemo.
    My husband was diagnosed with myoepithelial carcinoma which is a salivary gland cancer but instead of it being in his mouth area it appeared in his sinus cavity in order to remove the tumor they removed his upper palate (that was the first surgery). Normally this type of cancer responds good to surgery but his did not and came back 10 weeks later - he had a second surgery and they removed his upper jaw. Because the cancer "normally" responds well to surgery and not radiation they did not do radiation after the first surgery. But they are now treating him with both radiation and chemotherapy

    They said mine was polymorphous low grade carcinoma. It is malignant. They told me it will just keep growing until it is removed.

    Look a Neutron Radiation
    I have Mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Another type of salivary gland cancer. It was in a small gland on the roof of my mouth and the tumor grew into my maxilary sinus. When the tumor broke through the palate is when I noticed it. That said, I have had a resection (removal) of my right top jaw and palate. Was able to save my two front teeth. I have an obturator and will be going through Neutron radiation. Ask your doctors about that type of treatment as I was told neutron works better against salivary type of cancers than regular radiation. positive thoughts to your husband.
