Hi, Pammy. My reply to your guesses about "what number series' 6th number is 13?" is buried in the weekend plans posts, so I thought I'd repost it here for you:

Pammy likes puzzles

Maybe I should have called it a "series," not a "sequence." Have you ever heard of Fibonacci? He discovered this series: 1,2,3,5,8,13....Can you see the pattern? It's a mathematical formula that is frequently expressed in the natural world - in the spirals of a sunflower seed head, in the pattern of a pine cone, in a nautilus shell... Google Fibonacci and you will see amazing things including the "golden section!" xoxoxoxo Lynn

    Was I right?
    Was I right in guessing Prime Number?
    I am laughing, Lynn, because I threw that out there about the '8th number is 13' knowing the answer was "Fibonacci". I thought that would be cool!! Your pretty smart for a teacher!!!!! (chuckle)
    I was always in Gifted classes as were both my children. Both my son and I completed first year of college while still Seniors in High School. I have a fondness for the teachers of gifted classes as they always kept our brains challenged.
    Although Pammy may be puzzled at times.....yes, Pammy loves puzzles!!!!

    I have to confess that I grabbed my son as he was heading out the door in a panic yelling "Quick, what was the name of that dude that you connect with the number sequence thingy? You know, the one about 13 being the 8th?". My husband thought I lost it (I'm sure he was one number away from 9-1-1....) when my son turned around and told me I had it backwards and the name is "Fibonacci". It has been awhile!! But it's always fun to try to remember!! Thanks for making me think again!!
    By the way....to everyone else.....class is now in session!! Please come take your seats!!

    Sorry Pammy... but hubby and daughter kind of cornered me into dropping all my classes for the fall semister... actually kind of bummed about that... but thinking there may be some truth in what they said... so I won't be attending...

    I've Got No Strings To Tie Me Down!!!
    Don't apologize for dropping any classes FOR NOW~ many of us have had a bump in our road and we are waiting until the light is bright green again, so that we don't get sideswiped on the road to higher learning! And, many of us are taking classes in the School Of Hard Knocks, and we are being educated in the fine art of Killing the Beast! Nothng to scoff at!

    The great thing is, our minds and hearts can still be challenged! There are adult ed classes we can take, for fun and also keeping our minds sharp and stimulated. No need for us to stagnate, we can even take an online course or two if we want to!

    I was thinking, I could become an absolute expert in all things related to number sequences , or flora and fauna in England, or 16th centruy jewelry making if I want to! Or maybe I too will make all umpteen-zillion recipes from the Julia Child cookbook! Taleena, our possibilities are almost endless!!

    Thanks Claudia... yes.. it is only for now... however just for the record... I am not a big fan of the "school of hard knocks"... but I'm am taking the lessons... I really love school... being a ninth grade drop out... it has been a huge achievement for me... Working on my MBA I really want it in order to one day move back home and be competitive in the work force... here in MO my 20 years of experience is all I need.. but in the Seattle area.. well, I need more than that....

    Yes.. our possibilities are endless.... and here soon I will be back in the swing of things making my dream of a cap and gown a reality!

    Bless Your Heart! No, I am not a fan of the Hard Knock school, either! :-) Hate it, in fact! I love that you love school; I did too, and wish I had the opportunity to go to college. I never did, though I did audit classes while my husband ( ex) went to school to get his degree. It is a long, boring story as to why I never got to go to school~ I keep thinking ( hoping) it hasn't kept me from being a well-read, insightful, trivia-filled, inquisitive, and sometimes even an intelligent woman! LOL

    I just know that a cap and gown are in your future; I can sense your determination from here!

    I didn't go back to college until I was 38. I enjoyed it more than I would have when I was 20! I know you eill do it hun, your dream will become a reality, our possibilities ARE endless.

    Blowing It Off and Coming Back
    Taleena, I finished rads last Oct and promptly had an emotional meltdown that left me scrambling until last June. I worked the best I could, but you could have easily sent me to the back of the class! I am still recovering physically and emotionally, but I can see the light now. Currently, I am working on a one-credit class project(baby steps) with a co-worker (she's working on 3-credits) and plan to study so I can pass the Reading Praxis which is all I need to complete to be certified as a Reading Specialist in our state (Some of my friends would probably say I'm already certifiable. : ) ). That's my learning goal for this year. I am 59 (Claudia, hint, hint ) and STILL going to school.

    Taking time off from school can be a good thing. It's something to look forward to in the future. "If you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?"

    Ya know...I am incredibly encouraged, Lynn! I am 59 too~ and I have decided as of this very second that if YOU are in school, I am going to go too! I will take my own advise and couple it with your glowing example! So, Community College has classes starting Aug 26; I am going to go to their online directory and see what course or courses have Chenheart written all over them!!! THANK YOU LYNN!!!!! Maybe I will even become a reading specialist like you! Afterall, I did teach (as a volunteer) introductory reading and remedial reading for 7 years. Hmmmmmmm, it's a thought, isn't it???
