reoccurring cancer

I have a colostomy and they removed my rectum and I am sewed up the back.
Has any one had this type of surgery ,and the cancer came back I was a stage
2 cancer all margins were clean and 12 lip-nods. I don't know why I am having
these fears now my colostomy is 4 months and 2 days old and I am going back to
work on Aug 1.I know the cancer thing will always be with me but I need to know
if I might get this back.Doris

    That's the $64,000 question for all of us, Doris. It is also our greatest fear. And the simple truth to that answer is that no one on this Earth can really tell you if it will come back or not. And once Cancer has touched you, that will always be in the back of your mind even if scans are clear.

    It only takes ONE cell of Cancer to get things going, so to have all cells non-cancerous is a very hard thing I think.

    I've been at 2 stopping points in my journey where I thought I was OK. I also had rectal cancer, but was spared a colostomy my millimeters, just barely enough to hook me back up, it was very low in the rectal area.

    The colorectal cancer metastasized to the liver, where we battled at it there...thought we had that area at a stopping point, and now mets to the pleura of the lung.

    I've stopped worrying about it - I'm hopeful we can again bring it to a halt - even if we do, I'll always wonder if things will restart. And always will.

    Just take it one day at a time - you were given "a new lease" on life so just get after it and if it comes back again, you just have to deal with it again and fight some more.

    I've been at it starting my 6th year, so this is my experience...it's quite a long time in the battle, but as the war rages on, you just learn that it is what it is...you either fight or give up. I'm a fighter and if I don't make it, that's how I want to be remembered.

    Keep your chin up and your spirits high...you are alive today and that's enough - we never know about tomorrow anyway. Live for today and that's the best advice I can give anybody.
