I was wrong about friend.....

In an earlier post, I told you all that my best friend had deserted me during this time of need. Well, she called last night and wondered what the heck I was talking about in my email? She said it was all a big misunderstanding. That she had been crying because of how bad she felt for me not because she couldn't take it because of her mom having had breast cancer. Thanks to all of you who said she would probably come around.

    I'm so glad you and your friend talked. It was something you both needed to discuss and now hopefully she will be there for you. As others have said ... cancer just doesn't hurt the person with the diagnosis ... it hurts the friends and family too.

    So glad you were wrong & happy your friend is there for you.
    Surround yourself with positive upbeat people it will get you through. I think about all the people in my life some positive ,some not so positive, and some down right negative. I good friend told me not so long ago if the person zaps your energy they probably arent someone you want to be around very much, yet if you feel good or better after seeing or talking to them, they are keepers! Your friend sounds like a keeper just a little communication glitch!

    I had an idea it was a re-kindling of feelings and that she would soon re-group and be there for you! And I am soo happy for you! Especially knowing that she is not just a friend, but your BEST FRIEND in your corner with you will make your journey that much easier. Tell her hello from us, and that Caregivers, especially of the emotional kind are Saints in our book!

    I am so glad that you have a true BFF. I too have one and I find that when I need to get my worst fears and a good cry out of my system she is the one to go to. It hurts me too much to see the look on my husband and daughter's face when I have a melt down with them.

    I'm so happy to hear that this has worked out. I suspected that it was either a misunderstanding or that she just needed time to take the terrible news into her brain.

    I was diagnosed in October 2007 so I have had a lot of time to reflect on how things went down and things that were said. I have come to the conclusion that there is no 'right' thing to say when someone is diagnosed with this terrible disease. It seemed to me that no matter what anyone said, it wasn't 'right'. I found that everything that was said was easy for me to take in a negative manner. There were those that compared my cancer to someone that had it and either beat it or didn't. I hated both knowing that every case is different. My list could go on and on as to things that were said that I hated. But I did come to realize that everyone else is really trying to help and at the same time they were trying to deal with the hurt that it brought to them. My sister had breast cancer 2 years prior to me so I know the hurt from both ends and I actually think that I prefer to be the one with the cancer rather that to watch a loved one go through it when there is nothing I can do to make it better!

    Anyway, I'm thankful that you have your great friend to lean on! She will be a blessing to you in the days ahead.
