    Hair Again
I just finished my first round of treatment of A/C and will start Taxol/Herceptin in the next couple of weeks. My oncologist said I will start to see my hair return. Not right away! Should I not be so hopeful? I hope I don't sound so vain!!

    You definately don't
sound vain!We are all hopeful of things when we have something to look forward to! I personally can't remember how long it took for me(wish I had kept a journal back then).

    Scalp/Hair falling out
    Hi Elm3544,

My hair began falling out Sunday 7/26 and yours is the only post I've seen describing the very sore scalp that I am experiencing. I had thick hair and the scalp pain started Saturday, ramped up Sunday and continues today. My hair, while still plentiful, comes out in handfulls as I run my hands through it. I've been plucking it out thinking if my hair is gone then perhaps my scalp will stop hurting. Have you found anything that works for the burning/hair pulling feel? Tylenol isn't working for me and neither is a mild prescription pain reliever. I reassure myself that it's something to keep my mind off next week's upcoming chemo and other stressors. I did find that wearing a soft BC beanie type hat to catch my hair provides a little relief, like keeping my hair from jogging the folicles!

I have very dark brown hair with a lot of white (it's not gray it's white). Although my brown hair is fairly straight, it seemed my white hair was coming in with some curl. So, I'm taking bets it'll return red and ultra curly! What about you and yours?

    Martha

    Martha: You may want to
Martha: You may want to buzz your hair now. I had mine buzzed when it started falling out and then shaved it with an electric shaver which made me feel much better. My scalp stopped hurting after that. I went through 8 rounds of cytoxan, adriamycin, and 5FU, and my hair started growing back after I shaved it off. It was mostly fuzz but it was there. I lost my hair in all my private parts, underarms, and legs. My eyelashes thinned out considerably and my eyebrows stayed the same. I saved a lot of money in not having to wax while on chemo. (You have to look at the bright side of this also you know). So, if your hair is falling out in clumps, you might consider buzzing. Hugs and lucka to you, Lili

I am going to try the lint
I am going to try the lint roller! Thanks!
Martha, I want thick red curly hair, too!. My hair was thin wavy and blond. Or so I thought. Once I shaved it looked real dark brown. I have been dying it off and on for a long time so I guess it changed alot since I'd seen it. I am excited to see what I get once it starts to come back. My son has the red curly hair and my daughter has thick straight blond. we'll see!

My man has also been with me
My man has also been with me since high school and has had to endure his fair share of "does this make me look....". I can't wait to get a makeup mirror and start on scalp inspections...a new date night idea!!

    LOL
jojo, that's funny! I highly recommend it. I thought we had seen & been through about everything.

    ...and then we got BC!

I dont think it is very beautiful right now!
I tried the lint roller and I used about 10 strips. It just keeps coming!
If someone told me I'd spend my birthday running a lint roller across my head I'd have thought they were out of their mind!
Well I'm off to my onc appointment, wish me luck!

    Ha!
We really do get to know a part of life the rest of the world would never imagine!

The lint roller thing cracked me up from the beginning. The fact that you are doing it "Happy Birthday Style"...well, that's just too cool.

Good luck at your onco - report back, plz!

    Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday, Elm!

I have some of the same
I have some of the same questions. I shaved mine on day 12 anticipating the fallout within the coming week. Well it started to fall out yesterday, 6 days after my second treatment. It is real patchy now. My scalp feels so weird, the stubble hurts and it feels like my hair is being pulled all the time! How long does it take to finish coming out? And what about the armpits and legs? I stopped having to shave my legs every day but the underarm stuff just keeps on coming! When I went in for my blood test the woman said it was weird that I still had eyebrows!

    I was still able
to keep my eyebrows-lost my eyelashes though.

    LOL...
    I used duct tape.

    LOL...

I used duct tape. Stuck it to my stubbly head..and pulled it off. Seemed to take care of some of the stubble. But then it kind of resolved itself. My head feels a little like moderate sandpaper, armpits, arms, legs, face...all gone. Eyelashes and eyebrows still about 1/2 there.

The hardest thing to get used to was my ears folding over when I was trying to sleep and laying on my side!!

    Ouch
duct tape! Did it pull some of your skin off too though?!

If the stubble hurts then get a lint brush that has tape on it and roll it over your head--that is what I did.

The armpit and leg hair usually slows down before it stops growing.

A friend of mine who is a fellow bc
survivor told me about that(the lint roller). It works!

You are using a lint brush for your hair on your birthday and I was having a double mastectomy with tissue expanders put in on my birthday.

We make one heck of a pair.

    Onco Response
Apparently, my onco is not worried about the hair growth...which has been confirmed.
As stated, everyone is different and since they are lower levels (because they are weekly, rather than every 3 weeks) this is not overly surprising or concerning.

That's the "long" & "short" of my hair saga.
