Myeloproliferative disease/Myelofibrosis. Is it a cancer or a disease? It is caused by a mutated gene but is that enough to say it is a cancer?

    Both actually...
    Hi cms9978, I hope this helps a bit:

    "Myeloproliferative disorders are a group of diseases in which the bone marrow makes too many red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets."

    Chronic Myeloproliferative disorders, however, are bit different.

    " Chronic myeloproliferative disorders include the following 6 types:
    * Chronic myelogenous leukemia.
    * Polycythemia vera.
    * Chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis.
    * Essential thrombocythemia.
    * Chronic neutrophilic leukemia.
    * Chronic eosinophilic leukemia. "

    If you want more info on chronic myeloproliferative disorders you can visit the Oncology Journal site:

    I hope this answers some of your questions!
