I really appreciate your comments re my uncertainty of what my symptoms are from. I will try to not to stress too much although it's difficult to forget when you swallow every few seconds and always feel a lump sensation. Your kindness and info on this site is so inspiring. I will let you know how things go. Thanks again. Oh by the way what type of symptoms did you have when diagnosed with tonsil or base of tongue cancer? Thanks Jennifer

For whom does the bell toll?
Jennifer, not sure of whom you are addressing, but since I'm here, I'll respond anyway :).

Myself, I had cancer in the tongue that required removal and replacement of the entire right side of it. In addition, there were malignant lymph nodes which required a radical neck dissection.

My symptoms began as a sore throat in June of '05, which was treated with antibiotics. When the sore throat persisted into July, my GP prescribed stronger antibiotics. It was only when, at the end of August, I called him to advise I had a bump on my tongue and difficulty eating did he send me to the hospital IMMEDIATELY for what ended up being a biopy that proved the existence of cancer.

Hopefully, you will get different, much better results.

    Take care,

    Joe

I will see the family doctor
I will see the family doctor tomorrow for my blood pressure and want him to take a look at my throat. I don't know if I will get any sense of what this is until I go to the ent on Aug 11. I am trying not to dwell on my fears but it is difficult. Thanks for your concern. I'll let you know what I find out. Jennifer

    Act quickly
For two reasons, you need to act quickly:

The first is the obvious, if this ends up being cancer the sooner you take care of business the better.

The second, and equally important, is to assess the seriousness and move forward. In other words, you need to as quickly as possible get the answer to the question. Good News will bring you peace. Not-so-good news will give you the resolve to formulate a plan, put it in progress and move forward.

If it were me, no way would I wait until 8/11 to see an ENT. I would ask my Primary Doc to get me in with an ENT or a ER or whatever ASAP.

Every reason to believe the news will be good. But, you have to get the answers promptly.

    Just my opinion.
