Sounds like Riva might be
Sounds like Riva might be feeling a little better, and we all hope the prescriptions help her. We know how much you love her, and what a comfort she is. Although I don't have any pets right now, I know how devastating it is when they are sick...

J.....
I'm very sorry to hear about Riva.
However, my Yorkie (who has passed) also had severe disc problems. I found a veterinary chiropractor who worked miracles with her.
Dr. Charlotte King...she is Canadian, lives somewhere in Fort Erie I believe, but also practices here, in the U.S. See if you can find a number for her.
The pain pills will help with the pain, but sadly, won't fix the problem. And surgery is so risky, and oftentimes doesn't help.
Hugs to you and Riva.

... for your beautiful and beloved Riva - and you, too, dear J (because I know how much she means to you).
Hoping the injections and the medication do the trick.

Gentle hugs to Riva from my POD Grrr. If anyone can nurse her back to health with love and devotion it certainly would be you! By the way my fingers, toes, legs, arms and eyes are all crossed just for Riva.

My Friend's Dog
Ginger, hurt her back jumping for a ball. She went over backwards. She had been crippled up for a couple of years and it had gotten so bad that she didn't want to get up from her dog bed. My friends took her to a different vet, because our town's vet wasn't around and this new vet gave Ginger pain medication and it was like a miracle. She's up and can walk and she is so much better! Just like for us, sometimes a different doctor can make all the difference.
Just a thought.

So sorry about Riva. I hope she feels better. I just lost my cat (about two weeks after bil mast.) She was 18 yrs old and had lots of health problems including back leg problems. The night before my surgery, she dragged herself onto my bed. She hadn't been out of her little sleeping area in two weeks! I think animals have a sixth sense about things! I miss her very much! Hope things go well for you and Riva!0 -
I'm so glad you found it was
I'm so glad you found it was treatable! There is no good time for our pets to "walk to the other side" but now would be particularly hard as you are starting out on your new life. I'm happy for her and you!! Keep us posted.

My dog Dusty says, "Arf arf Riva." She is giving support because she hates the vet and she don't know it yet but she is going tomorrow.

First time I saw your cat I thought "that must be Marcias cat".0 -
OK, here's what you do....
no more walking upright. You must now get down to her level to keep her there. This will sometimes make drinking difficult. So you get a straw (one of those flexible kind) and stick it into your can or bottle, then just bend it over to drink. You CAN put several straws together to make it reach you easier. I'm warning you, though, that you may get drunk faster this way and burp more. And if someone tries to tell you I learned this trick because they snuck some beer into the hospital for me, don't believe them!! Pammy0 -
our furry babies
they do wrap themselves around our hearts don't they? Sounds like Riva is doing better, she has to now that she has been officially names the mascott of our club. Compacted discs is also a sign of age in the bigger dogs, just like the hip displacia.
My Sammy Boy, again, is feeling low, last time I think he was bit right on the end of his nose by a black widow, this time is probably a sick bird he ate. I always know when he isn't feeling up to snuff when he just lays on the bed and won't move all day. As long as I can get him to eat, I leave him to recover himself, but keep a close eye, because those little bodies can take a turn for the worse very quickly.
Take care of our Riva!
